They pump oxygen in the casinos, they get you drunk for free, they do all kinds of stuff to warp your brain into thinking you can gamble your money away just a little bit more.
It's the biggest example of a corporate playground I've ever seen. But their muzak is the best in the world. |

i recall an article on www.snopes.com that said they don't pump oxygen into casinos.

I slept for 4 hours the three days I was there and didn't get at all tired until I was on the plane. Feel free to find the article and post a link. But I don't see why they wouldn't. It keeps people awake and as such they can gamble their money away longer. Same reason they give you free liquor. Don't let anything fool you. Vegas is the best oiled machine designed specifically to part you with your money, despite the cheap food and free shows. |

I've heard they pump oxygen in to casinos as well but my logical thinking says its probably just an urban myth.
http://pilarski.casinocitytimes.com/articles/5795.html I do quite a bit of work with flamable gasses and codes and standards and I can tell you it would be no simple task to store that amount of oxygen safely in a casino, not to mention the pure volume they would need in order to do anything. I do alot of work with hydrogen in particular, which is nowhere near as dangerous as pure oxygen and we have special labs dedicated to using it properly, where if there is a leak detected power gets cut to the room, huge fans open in the ceiling etc. I would also expect to see more BOC, praxair or air liquide trucks in Vegas to supply this oxygen, when I was there I didn't see any. This guy makes a few good points in his article but I'm sure they can be debated pretty easily. Im sticking to urban myth. |

I am sure they don't pump 100% pure oxygen into the casino at all time but it might be an oxygen rich mix to keep the patrons more 'awake'.
For an industry that makes as much money as a Vegas casino does, storing and pumping in oxygen rich air isn't that big of a problem to solve. |

It is not a trivial matter when there are codes and standards to follow as far as fire safety is concerned. Even if it is just oxygen rich as stated in the article I posted, things will burn much much quicker. How would do they store the oxygen and what infrastructure is in place to ensure they have ample supply? I would expect to see alot of tube trailors around. If they do add oxygen to the air it is only a matter of %4 more maximum. according to the Department of Energy anything lower than 19.5% is unsafe to work in and anything over 25% poses big fire risks. Maybe if I get real bored and geek out I will try and calulate the amount of oxygen they would need to pump into the MGM 100k sq ft casino in order to bump the oxygen content a couple percent.

Those new hotel/casinos cost hundred of millions of dollars to build.
I think incorporating into the design a way to pump in oxygen rich air is done already. I have not been to Vegas but I have been into casinos and played marathon poker shifts and lasted longer than I would have in just a poker room. |

Just because they spend hundreds of millions of dollars doesn't mean its feasible to spend millions of dollars on raising the oxygen content by 1 maybe 2%. The benefits must outweigh the costs. If you could post some links talking about the designs that would be great.
