how small can a night club be?
I have my eye on a coffee shop to buy and run as presently, as a coffee shop & deli daytime. But after 7 pm the idea is to transform to "club mode" and start serving drinks (preferably not beer) and have a DJ. Music would be house, trance, electronica, maybe a jazz night, no top 40 crap.
The place is like a big Starbucks, kind of classy. About 2000 sq feet in an L shaped layout, plus another 600 or so for washrooms/utility. There is a 20x40' open space where there are tables and chairs that can be removed evenings, that would be the dance floor or mingling area. There is another 400 sq.ft. open area at the other side of the shop, and about 800 sq. ft. in the middle for the kitchen equipment, deli style surrounded on 3 sides by long counters and food display cases. Also some outside patio area adjacent to the main room. It's got a good location, and no residential nearby to complain about noise. Possibly too small, and not the right design for a club. But affordable, and maybe an alternative to the usual "sports bars" and normal much bigger clubs. :smoke1: Opinions? |

yeah, the city will give you one helluva FUN time with the permits. and applying for a liquor license will cost quite a chunk of dough, and they might not even give it to you in the end...but obviously you don't get your application fee back.

It's in Chilliwack, but it could be done anywhere. We have a lack of entertainment here so there is very little competition.
Located in a separate building size about 6000 sq ft, which has the other half used by a specialty store. Isolated from other buildings at an upscale mall (for this area) which is about 5 years old. There is another local coffee place next to condos, that sells wine, so I would think a license is possible. :toasted: |
