Still doesn't answer my question. How would they determine certian sounds from those letter/symbols? It's really hard to explain what I mean, but if someone acually came up with an answer for it I would be extremely impressed. So far Winston's is what im thinking.

you know what's funny, i was thinkin of the same thing - how do you go from symbols for things to a phonetic written language... technically you could write almost any language phonetically using Roman characters but wouldn't be able to do the same with hieroglyphics or chinese characters.

omega, i can't really remember the answer. but pick up a couple of Stepehn Hawking's books, he talks about all sorts of that stuff. Someone mentioned in a post on the thread as part of their answer about what might have been before the big bang... scientifically we shouldnt care beccause all the matter in the universe is crammed intoa single point, therefor time and the laws of physics break down (also happens in black holes) so essentially ANYTHING could have been there... but read Stephen Hawking. Brilliant

My question.... space is very very cold and is essentially kinda a vacuum as in there is no oxegen... so.... If i take a frozen burrito and toss it into space.... it will remain frozen and there will be no oxegen to provide bacteria with aiir even if it does get any heat... as it probibly will get abit from any nearby suns/stars... So essentiall could ET find my burrito in 5000 years throw it in his alien microwave and enjoy some Meixcan food for breakfast?

Actually, according to string theory - which is looking very promising as the new 'beyond' particle physics physics, and which is also beyond the scope of Hawking's book (for the most part at least) the universe was never crammed into a singularity (single, infinitely small point) - it actually had a defined size, however small (around the Plank length of ~ 10E-33 meters) and the laws of physics according to string theory DON'T break down... A book called "The Elegant Universe" goes through this and many other mind boggling/blowing ideas on the edge of the universe (litterally and figuratively).

the government subsidizes 80-90% of your education so unless you go to a private school no one is making money off of your tuition.

the answer to every other question is this: asian parents.

and some of us work in research making a better world for your dumb ass. maybe we went to school because we chose to because of some crazy reason like, oh i don't know... we were interested in the subjects. you don't want to go to post secondary that's your choice, don't piss on people that do.

here's a question that came up at work today. Name a competitive, non-combative sport that is played worldwide and has originated in China/other parts of asia (i mean something like soccer, golf, cricket, etc..) im just sorta curious what sports were played there in the past and if any survived to this day. Apparently there was a form of soccer in China about 1000 years ago, but didn't make it to now.

something about way back in the day when typewriters would break real easily when typers typed too fast... so they decided to switch the letters around in a weird way so they would type slower, thus, breaking less.

thats not true about type writers. They key are placed so that the most commonly used letters are in the middle area, close to our two main typing fingers, then the other letters are placed in accordance with thier amount of use in the english vocabulary. It is more efficient if you type properly with your hands in one position on the keyboard.
