Clubs or Raves?
Here's something I've been thinking about lately.
If you were a parent would you be more content knowing that your 15-18 year old son of daughter goes to raves or clubs? Although I had been clubbing on occasion when I was 15-16 I had my fake ID stolen and it's only until more recently that i've been able to go again and my parents have been strangely supportive. Why? Because they think that going to clubs will keep away from the rave scene. This doesn't really make sense to me, because although drugs (with the exception of alcohol) are less common in clubs they're prone to more violence. Or is this just a generalization? Would your opinion differ based on the gender of your child, and if you were a parent would you prefer it if your son/daughter went to one over the other? |

^ hmm I don't know about that alcohol can cause liver cirrhosis (sp?) and other liver problems. It also results in drinking and driving quite frequently, which is obviously a big problem nowadays.
I've been drinking more frequently lately and I don't like what it's been doing to me just in terms of being a downer and the whole hangover deal. What about environment wise? Which is "safer"? |

Its all due to clubs being socially accepted. If I were a parent i would deffinetly find out what kind of rave the child was attending. If it was a city sanctioned legal event with security, i believe those are much safer than clubs or underground parties.

i'd feel safer if my daughter went to clubs with a big group of friends, had a safe ride home and knew not to leave her drinks sitting on tables or to except drinks from random people... i woulda rather she did this then goto a rave and be safe, cuz at a rave there is much more creepier guys...

well, thats a toughy.
i think it will be different for our generation, well for myself atleast, because i have done both and know what goes on there. i know things will be different once i am an adult, as far as rave and club culture, but i will atleast know what went on when i was a youngen. i dont think i would have a preference, either way i would prolly still stress about it. all i hope is that i did my job correctly and that they are open with experiences and their life in general. it will be fun times though. |

So that doesn't always work, especially if your kid comes across as an angel and is really pursuasive. |

Well, when i have kids, i'll be like 30. and the rave scene (in vancouver) will be much bigger and 'raving' will be more established as major clubbing events. i agree with the city sanctioned bit too. Otherwise, i'd let my kids go to clubs at 19 (if they sneak behind my back, whatever), and rave at like 15.
The drugs, well, hopefully it'll just be a phase like it's been for many of. If they turn into some sort of addict, intervention will take place, and if my kid turns into a stoner, the locking in closet till 15 thing may come into affect. but otherwise, i'm going to give my kid some credit in the street sense department instead of thinking he's some sort of retard incapable of looking out for their own good. |

I would like to think that I could trust my child enough to attend either event. I am not going to be nieve enough to believe that they will never try either substance, but just hope that they are edumacated enough to make the right choices when it comes down to it.
With that being said I will probably end up being a psychotic parent that beats there child into submission. Only letting them look outside the bar covered window just to remind them I am protecting them from the cruel world. Then when they are old enough to escape or beat me down, all they can hope for is to be a social reject. I can hardly wait! |

If i was a parent i wouldnt let my kids go to either of these events at the age of 15-18. I was once that age and experianced both clubing and raving but no matter how responsible my kids were i wouldnt want them to go just cause through experiance you know what can happen even to the best of people. you dont have to be a non responsible person to get into drug problems or dirnking problems etc... Im locking my kids up lol
