Why did you start raving?

For me.... I was 16... a little gothic trencher kid.... thought ravers were a bunch of freaky little spastic chipmunks on crack...

Then I started dating a raver.... after about 2 weeks of listening to my assorrted collection of NIN and Marilyn Manson, he finally got sick of it and threw on a Chemical Brothers CD.... I payed no attention to it until the very last song "Where do I begin"

The lyrics really caught my attention.... so I replayed the song... then I replayed the whole CD, and suddenly discovered a whole new world of music.

So a couple weeks later (after we had broken up) I went to a rave. Outdoor party.... there I was, all gothed out, standing around (cause I really couldn't dance) when a bunch of candykids walked up and asked me if I was alright.... must have looked like I was bored, and I did look really out of place.... we started talking, and it struck me that this was a great place to be.... where I could just be myself, and still be completely accepted by those around me...

So, I turned into a candykid, and here I am, 6-1/2 years later, having attending so many parties I can't remember how many it's been, and I am still going strong.

I love this scene. Sure, there are people that occassionally bring me down about it, but for the most part, I still find it a place where everyone is accepted for who they are.

And I have to admit, we have the best music in the world. :)

i got kicked out of catholic school in grade 9

then i went to this school, for intelligent teach yourself types...

and i started chillin wit all these grade 12 kids, they took me to protest ralleys against companys like Nike, and to support demonstrations for Tibet...things like that. it was a lot of fun

and then one of them , Dan Gardner asked me to come to a party he was spinning at, Praynama in 98'

i went, they gave me a hit of acid, only i didnt know how long it took to kick in. i figuered they gave me something fake cuz i was younger, so i went and bought another one 20 minutes later elsewhere

i was very very high

i think it was one of my best experiances tho

dan lives in montreal now, he had or has a label with adam marshall . aparently he's doing well.

because there was nothing to do and no place to meet people when you're 15, and highschool dances are boring.

plus toronto was the cool place to be where i came from.
we used to get my friends older sister to drive us up there and lie to our partents about where we were going for the weekend since i lived like 3 hrs away from tdot.
it was a blast. thats before i started doing drugs.
i used to just go and watch. never danced. just chatted it up and stayed up all night.

I didn't do my first party sober, but then, I had been using drugs for a long time by that point..

I was kinda precocious in that way.... got all my experimenting out of the way really young, so by then it was just recreational. :)

a 25 year old raver with no friends and a lot of money moved into my apartment building when i was 14. i helped him out with some computer troubles a couple times, we started talking about music, and before i knew it i was on drugs at a rave party...

3 years later he got married to a really amazing woman, sold his apartment and bought a house with his woman. last year he sold his house for a fortune and moved to california. he still goes to raves once in a while with his wife.

i'm afraid i will never see him again :(

I would not worry about that too much.... I used to live out in Toronto, raved out there as well....

The last 2 parties I have been to - KISS & SSBB, I have run into people I have not seen in close to 4 years that I used to party with in TO.

You never really know who is going to show up to a party.
