A good question to ask the landlord:

Is hot water included in the rent? If it isn't then your hydro will be alot and i mean ALOT higher. When I had to pay for hot water my bill was close to $200 every 2 months. Now I don't pay for hot water and my hydro is about $80.(we have a d/w and insuite w/d so we pay a little more)

Cable through shaw, all 60ish channels and high speed is $90 a month(i own the modem so i save about $7/month) and Phone through telus with 3 features is about $50 a month. My roommate and I split it so we each pay about $90 a month.

If you want to keep your hydro low... don't leave your computer on when you don't have to. It sucks up more energy than alot of other appliances.

As far as I know, it really has nothing to do with where you live city-wise. It has to do with size/age of the place and what you utilize and how much. It can also depend on what kind of heating the place has as well.
as ive been told by the city of new west they own the hydro here its not owned by the same peeps as in vancity and the price is way cheaper here for some odd reason....dunno? dont really care either as long as the bill is always around $30 hehe

Unless you set up a pre-authorized payment plan, then that eliminates the security deposit (at least with Hydro it will)

and at TELUS as long as you can offer them all the credit info (ie landlords name number, personal info, cred card number, references) you can usually get away without a deposit. Or you can also choose to have a Long Distance block on you line in lieu of a deposit.

I forgot about credit checks. The agents will never offer you that option, but its always available. Just ask.

Budget a lot of money for food, go buy really good food and lots of it. Don't cheap out on it. Also buy a popcorn maker.
