To those who live on your own...
Approx. how much do you think utilities, plus cable, plus internet would cost for a two bedroom apt? I'm pretty much moving out at the end of the month, but I gotta figure out how much the bills cost ahead of time to see if the move into this place is feasible for my budget. Monthly rent ended up a bit higher than I had hoped, but I love the place, so I got a full time job ontop of my part time one right now.

hydro + gas = $40 - $80/month (this is very rough)
cable = $40/month (or $50/month for digital) internet = $40/month You can just split your internet cable though and run it to your TV so you don't have to pay the extra $40 (yes this will slow down your internet connection while the TV is on, but not much and who cares anyway) ps. how do you get a full time job on top of a part time job... shouldn't it be the other way around. |

it depends i think. cause i mean living in new west your hydro i way cheaper then living in vancouver.
i pay $30 every two months. and i know if you buy your modem from telus right now they give you two months free and then its 24.95 or some junk after that. and i mean my phone bill with no LD calls is almost in the $40 range without the internet. cable is such a hassel. id say invest in a dvd player instead. cause i mean if you really must have it its gunna kick you in the butty. be careful cause i think the thing people forget about most is the little things like FOOD! dont underestimate how much you really eat. even if you buy cheap. and the fact that you need things like TP to survive. or things like money for transpo/car. theres so much to consider. |

yup, gunna have one roomie so we're going to split the bills.
and pbreak, just had a p/t job first, but i just found a f/t one, so i'm going to make the two schedules work so i have lots of hours. i kinda want to just screw moving out and working and just go and travel. sigh. |

I wish I could just go travel . . . but I have to save the money up first in order to do so!
Soon, soon enough : Oh yeah as far as bills . . . cable is about$40 depending on what package you get ofcourse, internet $40 and hydro can range - really depends but I would say budget in about $50 for yourself just to be safe then if it's less - great! And don't forget about connection fees (although some company's have deals :)) Moving is so much fun! |

Hydro really varies depending on what you have in your place... a washer and dryer will really bump your bill up, and same with heating if its electric. Of course, with summer coming you won't have to worry about that much. Still waiting for my first set of bills after moving downtown.. didn't know Hydro would cost more here.

just so you know erica, if you're starting a new account with bc hydro & terasen, you're gonna be paying security deposits... $200 EACH. so unless you're just paying the hydro & gas bill to your landlord, have an extra $400 sitting around.

Lessee...
$35 for hydro (heat & hot water are included in my rent, so this is just electricity) $25-ish for basic cable (channels 2-28), $50-ish full cable (up to channel 59), $60-ish for digital cable (adds things like movie channels, etc) if U own the terminal or box, another $11+tax if U need to rent it $40-ish for high speed internet (tho U can find promos short term or slower services and save about $10/month, this is what U'll pay normally after U're promos are expired) So thats between a low of about $90 incl. taxes (hydro/basic/slower or promo internet) and a high of about $115 incl. taxes (hydro/digital and renting the set top box/hish speed net) PLUS heat and hot water, which I have no clue on... |

thanks everyone. :) i'm aiming to allow about $100 for all the extras, since i'll be splitting the bills with another girl.
and bawb, thanks for the heads up! i'm actually moving into a place with someone who's already been there for a while (taking the spot of my co-worker who's moving to boston for a bit over a year) so i won't have to worry about starting new accounts and all. |
