I was just talking to someone who out of all of us knows more on this matter than anyone else. Basically there is no stopping it. The owners of Plaza lose tons of money each year. Slamming a casino there is way for them to make a lot of cash flow and acually make some back. It's bought, the city already said it was a go, the construction plans are all done, and building of the casino will start asap.

It sucks, but we have to face it. The only way we will get Plaza back is if the city says "Hey Casino owners.... FUCK OFF!", not in that context, but you get it.

OK, This is a tough one as I know everyone wishes to see the plaza survive. The petition is a good idea but I think you'll find that it's a little too late. The city has made a commitment to the casino organization and to back out now they would surely be sued for the loss of time and potential earnings. This amount could be extremly high if they chose and the city would have little to no legal foot hold to stand on. A change in location would be great and moving it to the lower east side is a good idea as well but as mentioned before it might be a little too late but I do encourage you to persue it without delay.
THIS IS A COMMENT FOR ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING SUCH THINGS AS "Why should the city listen to a bunch of ravers" Well this is simple because these are people that care about something that is happening in this city and would like to stand up for it. Will the city look at it with an objective opinion. proberly not but this should not stop anyone from trying to stand up for something they believe in and hope for change. If you hate ravers and raves so much get the F**K off a forum that was originally established to support this scene and it's devoted audience.
I look forward to these last two events at the plaza of nations (for now) and continue on in finding suitable venues to hold future massives. The city's promoters and companies that have worked extremly hard to keep this scene alive when many wanted to bury it are once again stepping up to regional citys and and councils to ensure that this scene no matter what the state of affairs are with the Plaza.
Last but not least thanks again to everyone who is helping out with constructive thoughts and ideas we (as a scene) need everyones help right now and in the future.

Just a thought but a 3000 person sit in at the plaza of nations outside stage on some random day could be interesting! I'm not saying a whole lot about this but if anything it might get some media coverage and let the city know that there's alot of people in this scene and their voices would like to be heard.
Just a thought!

Robyn, I love you.

and if only every single petition saved the cause it was out to fight, the world would be a different place.

I love the part about the downtown eastside put in there, like how many of you actually put an ounce of caring into how it is there? The only reason most of you want this saved is so you can save raves...

I don't really see how putting a casino in the east side is the best idea. I think that it would just add to the problems in that area. Yes casinos generate money but the money comes from people with either lots of money or people with gambling problems. The race track has already been bought by Canadian Casino and they are trying to keep slots out of there.
I know it's great to try and save plaza and all but for me it's not just about the venue its more about what casinos can do to the community. I don't think putting it in the east side would be a very good idea. First off the people with a lot of money most likely would not be attracted to an area like the east side where there is a reputation of crime. What does that leave people with less cash and gambling problems. Lets make the poor struggling families harder off by bringing the casino to them!!! yay!

Now that doesn't stand for everyone on the east side but I don't really see it as much of an improvement to the situation. We would save a nice building for our own use but I'm not for the casino period so I don't see it as much of an improvement just putting it somewhere else.

No doubt. This may be one of the most ridiculous, self-important 'causes' ever.

I do understand what everyone is saying her, however my thoughts on this is that, we will never know if we dont try. There may be a very slim chance that it goes through but all we can do is support what we want.

I agree one hundred percent. Yeah, okay, plaza is cool. But c'mon...everyone is acting like this is the end of the world. If not being able to have raves at Plaza anymore is the end of the world for you, then there are some things seriously wrong with your priorities in life.
