Chinese
Japanese Thai Indian Ethopian Mexican French Hell, I'm up for about anything. I have no favorite, really. When I was a chef I always hated it when people would ask me my favorite thing to cook or dish or whatever, why limit yourself to just one thing? |

hmmmm,
I've travelled a bit and think that most of the foods we get here are quite bland compared to where they originate from. Thai food in thailand tastes completely different there. Think of the difference between a green curry made from canned coconut milk and prepared curry paste to one made from freshly pounded herbs and chilies with the juice of a real coconut. mmmmm.
Indian food in india is quite simply a religious experience. there is nothing i've had here or anywhere else in the western world that compares to it, for no other reason than the love put into its preparation. locally i think vancouver excels in the inexpensive sushi department. I love chinese too, dim sum is a great hangover cure. i miss toronto for the variety of ethnic food places (like somalian, ethiopian, west african, west indies , russian, baltic and so many others. I'm making myself hungry, gonna go eat. |

if you think that vancouver is lacking in the fine japanese food department, then you've been eating at the wrong restaurants. restaurants like tojos, yoshi and shijo all make japanese food really properly and all show a lot of respect to the art form.
my after-rant favourites: japanese (duhhh :P) indian thai singaporean korean french spanish JAMAICAN!! mmm...jerk chicken and plantain after eating chinese every day of my fxcking life, i find that i don't really appreciate it after a while. but honestly, getting real with myself, if i go a few days without true chinese home cooking, i almost feel depressed. lol. congee wut?! |

yeah i love jamaican/trinidadian/west indian food.
we always go to this little jerk chicken place in TO...it's run by this really old jamaican woman...she speaks in heavy patois and she's so funny. i call her my mom away from home. she makes the best jerk chicken and always gives us extra food to take home with us. AND she also does hair and gives my bestfriend in TO her monthly weaves. best combination ever. -s. |
