reinstall Windows 98 without losing all my programs, files, etc...

its not at all easy to do, practically impossible. the most you can do is backup your data files and copy them back over once you've gotten windows and all your programs reinstalled. other then that you're pretty much screwed.

you can keep yer files and programs, but for any of those programs that had parts installed to into the windows directory, yer fucked.

wow! all you did was reword exactly what i said in my reply. And as for saving the programs that dont register with windows, well thats good and all but 95% of the programs he's using are probably registered somehow with windows or some other software on the computer. Its best to just reinstall all the programs and then just copy over your backed up data files. (ie. word documents, mp3's, icq contact list etc etc)
Then again what would i know? its not like i work at a computer store or anything....

yeah you can spank in the Win 98 CD during startup and install Win98 without reformatting.!
