I've got the friday and the monday booked off work. If I had the vacation time available I might book a bit more, but... I don't.
I went to Shambhala 2002... people talk about it being "life changing".. I don't know about that, but it was definetly an amazing fucking experience...
The thing about parties that you have to road trip to get to, is that... because everyone has put so much effort into getting ready, and getting there.. no-one fucks around when it comes time to party. When there were parties every weekend at Raverside, and later the Plaza of Nations.. they lost a lot of their true (non drug induced) appeal, because they were just some stupid bullshit that you could half-ass your way over to without a second thought.
If you're going to Shambhala, you might as well BRING IT! Do more drugs, party harder, have more fun, hook up with more random people, etc etc etc. Everyone goes there planning on having the time of their life; no-one is there to hang out for a bit and then go out into the parking lot and break into cars.
Some random things I remember from last time I was there:
- Finding a couch in the middle of the woods and lying on it for a long time
- Dancing to a 4 hour reggae/dub set (Solomonic Sound.. BIG UP!) with a bottle of juice and vodka in one hand, a spliff in the other hand, great friends at my side and a shit-eating grin on my face
- Dancing to a 2 hour breaks set (later that night/morning!) by Lee Coombs.. When he started, I thought I was tired.. at some point during his set I realized I wasn't going to sleep until he was off the decks.. fucking amazing
- The visuals... the forest... combining into one awe inspiring entity
- Trekking with a friend down a dusty road to nowhere in the middle of a hot afternoon... passing many a hippy camp/commune
- Smoking so much pot that I stopped noticing when I was smoking pot.
- The temperature difference.. from 25-30 celcius in the day, to like.. 5?.. at night? ... still, beats burning man.
- MUSIC! ALL THE TIME, MUSIC! WHENEVER YOU WANT, ALMOST ANY STYLE YOU WANT!
- TRAINWRECKS! They're not all headliners, after all =)
In conclusion, I'd like to apologize to those of you offended by the excessive swearing in this post. I'm just really fucking excited about going again =D
Cheers
Dave
