Wow. Sorry to hear that.
But she didn't pass away from being a vegan - she passed away because she didn't eat properly. A vegan diet can be completely healthy, as long as you're very careful about what you eat - it takes a lot of research and effort to be a healthy vegan.

I'm very aware of that, but still.....

I have my own opinion on the situation.

it's true, but it takes a lot less research and effort to simply eat organic and small amounts of free range eggs/meat - it's also a lot healthier, don't even bother trying to tell me it isn't because I will never believe you. We are omnivores, so to say that meat in any way is unhealthy is silly. im not saying all vegans claim that it is because many are vegan simply due to what they consider animal abuse/murder/whatever, but many do make this claim and often largely based on vegan propoganda (yes there is such a thing) and not actual science. I have no issues with vegans because they are standing up for something they believe in and generally aren't hurting anybody by doing it, but obviously some people take veganism in a fad kind of way and don't really know what they're doing and this is very dangerous.

being vegan is a fad? God did I miss that memo.

being vegan is such a challenge for me. A challenge when I eat, a challenge when I exercise, a challenge in social situations! I've stopped telling people I'm vegan because of all repeatative ignorant questions.

It's been a long time since I've eaten any meat, so I can't really remember what it tastes like, though I remember really liking it. It hasn't been so long that I don't imagine what cheese, icecream, eggs, all that stuff tastes like. The temptation to give in is hard to resist. I don't see why this could be considered cool. Who are these people, and can we shoot them in the head please.

apparently you seemed to have missed the ever so important words "some people take veganism in a fad kind of way..." Which of course means that most vegans are not, so please do not take this comment personally. My commentary was based more on those who apparently don't know what they are getting themselves into, don't do any research and don't end up eating well enough to stave off malnurishment - such as J'nette's friend, and she payed for it dearly. My point is that humans acting as herbavores is somewhat unnatural and if for whatever moral/ethical reason someone wants to do so they better have a very good game plan. And I honestly believe that there are some people out there that do it to fit into a cliched image of what they'd like to be instead of for their own personal reasons.

^ I was refering to those "some people"

Please don't get me wrong, I didn't take offense to what you said by any means :), and I appreciate your comment. I'm taking offense to those vegans who think of it as a fad (in general)....considering it's such a hard decision for me (not to mention a lot of work).

I thought you might have been saying that, but I couldn't really tell... didn't mean to sound like a dick. But I guess this means we agree and thus the end of my participation in this thread.
