I think a large part to do with the 'why' is media conditioning. not soley, but definitely a major contributor to what's acceptable. Magazines, movies, television shows, ads, they all scream "your not beautiful like these people. False behaviourisms have become worshiped as goal attaining ideals to emmulate.
ex:Movie heroes Stalone, Arni, Bruce Willis all portray the stereotypical "man's man" - Physiqued breadproviders who are seemingly invincible to phsyical and emotional angst.
Sexuality is a topic which has and will remain taboo with the populace majority because it's a hard subject to talk about. No ones taught that in school have they? Girls liking girls, guys liking guys, or both. It talks about feelings both mental
andsexual that are inspired within.. It's a 'no-no' zone for teachers to get involved in. In turn, how do you expect a parent, a previous generation raised with different morals and beliefs, a more conservative approach to sexuality, to talk about it with their kids and say "it's all right to feel this way" if the parent doesn't feel that his or her self?
blah.
ranting. will stop.
yada yada yada.
