Are Ravers the new millenium's Hippies?

It really wasn't much different from the rave scene- there were a whole lot of people there just for the sex and the drugs and the opportunities, and an upper crust of folks who truly believed in the social ideals and basically embodied the values and qualities we associate with hippies today.
To imagine that all hippies were so very different from the youth of today's alternative culture seems a bit fantastic and sentimental. I believe there were just as many scuzzballs and cynical opportunists back then... but the ones we remember and think of when we think "hippy" are the ones who actual fought at the forefront for their beliefs.

A lot of hippies devoted themselves to world issues (vietnam war, segregation, feminist movement) which is part of what made them such a huge and memorable movement in this century. The only issue I've really seen ravers latch onto is making raves legal.

for sure... IMHO. the disco era was filled with, dj's, drugs, dancing, fashion loads of artists releasing DANCE music.

IMHO rave is like disco back from the dead, if you want to think about it that way.
