If you can make it on your own then you can rely on yourself and you know what you are capable of. With someone else chipping in there is always the chance of them leaving and you having to pick up the slack.

16.. and still doing fine.. almost 21 now...
and i moved out because i wanted the freedom, and still have a very close relationship with my parents it's okay if you move out.. but don't underestimate the costs... there are a lot of expenses here and there that will add up. |

I'm 22 and I haven't moved out yet.
My mom and I get along great, we have more of a friend relationship than a mother-daughter one. She refuses to allow me to pay rent and I have the entire ground floor to myself (bathroom, bedroom, office, storage), so it's a pretty damn sweet deal. My 20 y/o brother lives here, too, but we don't see him too often. Somehow we all seem to manage to show up at home all at the same time every Sunday night and actually have a sit-down dinner, too. I'm glad that my brother and I still live at home with my mom because the three of us never really got along until my brother and I became adults. We're a lot closer now that we're older. Although Im living at home now, ive been responsible for buying my own food for years now. Ive learned a lot from it by knowing what to by at what stores and understanding how long things last and what to stock up on when its on sale. Eventualy you devolope a habbit in your local grociery store and get a rutine list that you dont foget.

21, then moved back home for two months while I was waiting for my apartment to open up.
Roomates help, at least mine does. So make sure you don't get someone flakey. My brother is 27 and still living at home. Says he'll be there till he finishes school (when he's 29) and when he save some money. I couldn't imagine that. |
