My friend lives in an Apartment Building and that's how gets his Interweb... Leaching from the Building across from him. He sucks up so much bandwidth downloading Xbox Games all day.

i always wondered why people leave their wi-fi connection unlocked... there's encryption available so ppl cant leech bandwidth :\

i think it's great. i do it but limit the bandwidth.

i like it when im on call with work, sometimes im sitting in a pub and i gotta pull out the laptop and go walk around the parking lot with net/macstumbler running. all i need is 1 bar of interweb to get a ssh session up to fix shit.

then i can go back to drinking and not have to go home.

easier than sshing from the treo.

I just got Wi-Fi too - very cool for net access from up to about 200 feet away from the wireless router box. And you can transfer files between computers fast if they are set up for sharing on a workgroup.

I took my laptop to several places in town, some of my friends also have wireless routers and I can use their net access since they gave me the passwords etc. Other people's networks can be detected, up to 4 in some places, a few seem to be open but I cannot log into any yet to leech bandwidth.

After you set up a wireless network you can disable SSID broadcasting to make it invisible to most other people (except the sneaky ones).
