harmeet: its a 92 isuzu rodeo suv. it has an older alpine deck in it, probably doesnt have RCA outs on it though. i didnt check. but in my Legend which i had the system in before, we connected the wires into the back speaker and connected the remote to the power antenna. i know how to connect the power wire and groundd wire but im a bit unsure about the speaker bridging part and tapping into the back speakers. a buddy did it fgor me. also since i dont have anything powered in the trunk area of my truck i am going to have to run remote wire to a fuse or the ignition...but i dont know how to do that part.
want to help for 20 mins? |

I can help you out, I've installed several sub setups in peoples cars, including 3 of my own.. To run the subs, you'll need to see if the deck has RCA preouts, if it doesnt, check the amp to see if it has high-level inputs. If it has high level inputs you just tap into the rear speakers with some extra wire and run it to the amp..
+12 volts should be run direct from the battery, remote turnon wire should go to the back of the deck and connect to either the amp turn on wire, or the antenna power wire. and use a short ground wire to ground the amp somewhere to the trunk floor. comprehendable? Send a PM my way if you need a hand Last edited by dSl-DuDe; Aug 27, 04 at 05:16 PM. |

^ if this is what your asking:
you CAN run an aftermarket amp/subs with a stock stereo, as long as the amp has High-level inputs on it... You just tap into the speaker wires (+ and -, for each channel) and run it to the inputs on the amp. and yes, you could hook an mp3 player directly to the amp without a cd deck, BUT... you'd have very little control over the settings, EQs, etc... also if its a sub only amp with a crossover, you will only get the LF (Bass), and.. Do I know you? (or... how do you know my name?) |

Lets start from the deck to the trunk.
K...it has an alpine deck in it so it don't have no factory preamps for the factory deck...good. (1 less headache). From the deck: -RCA (SUB-OUT) -Remote Wire from amp to deck (deck sends the signal to the amp telling the amp that the deck is on so the amp will power up [use it so the amp isn't ALWAYS on]) To the Amp: -Route the RCA & Remote wire (tape them up so they don't tangle) to the rear of the truck (or where ever ur bolting ur amp down) -Run the power wire to the (+) lead of the battery (make sure to have the fuse closer to the battery then the amp, 20-50 amp fuse should be ok) -You want to use the shortest ground wire possible, so mount the amp in the desired spot and find a good ground (bare metal works best, if need be SANDPAPER). -Hook up the RCA and REMOTE wires to the amp (remote hookup is usually along side the (+) and (-) terminals on the amp. -determine the distance between your amp and the sub box connection terminals and cut (preferable 12-16 GA) speaker wire connecting the sub to amp. TIPS & TRICKS. -try and find out the resistance of the SUB (either 4 or 8 ohm)...this will allow max out put of amp and sub. -to bridge 2 channels to 1, connect the (+) from the sub to the (+) of channel 1 on the amp. connect the (-) from the sub to the (-) of channel 2 on the amp... -if you have doughts, use an ohm meter and hook it up to the terminals on the sub and find out what ohmage ur amp puts out. that should be a good enough tutorial. |

thanks for all of the help guys. I know how to connect the sub to the amp, the ground wire, battery power cable and bridge the amp .
but....where i am confused on is "tapping into the rear speakers" since I am not going to use RCA's and also where to connect the remote wire to. fuse box? ignition? back of deck? and...how? |

RCA - if you don't have RCA hook ups on the back of the deck, you must use a low pass connector on the amp (small connector that plugs into the amp and has 4 wires coming from it, one pair to rear left, one to rear right) and if ur amp don't have that...then ur sol on that on...unless u get a frequency modulator...but those r expensive |

thanks for all the help guys!
i got it hooked up tonight and now it thumps loud! i ran the remote wire into the ignition fude in the fusebox since there was no remote wire from the deck. and then tapped into the back speakers to the amp (didnt have long enough rca's handy). |
