Here's a quote that captures part of the underlying msg of the work and the time period(despite what some believe the message wasen't about taking drugs and getting fucked up):

**edit: I believe this is the best quote because it unveils the true meaning of the book; the counter-culture movement losing steam and turning into the hapless "American dream" of consumerism. Thompson pisses on the alter of the American experience in Las Vegas.
