damn virus

well i just reformatted and re installed windows, just finished getting all my drivers and programs and shit installed once again. already got a virus.

its called spybot.worm and so far it cant be repaired. so i figure since i just reformatted i might as well do it again cuz this virus sends your personal info to a mirc chat room or some shit.

i wish these nerds would stop getting off on making viruses all the time.

i wonder where i got it from though since i havent really done anything except go on fnk and msn and stuff like that.

i have norton and a firewall.

the other odd thing is i reformatted again after i had the virus and it comes up saying i have it again. 2 files were infected last time and now just 1.

and this time i didn't even go on the internet although the computer was connected to the cable modem and everything was hooked up.

^ you may not have personally used it, but you're still connected. that's good enough.

did you do a complete format of your hard drive? deleting all partitions, everything?

if you're really paranoid and do it again, unplug your internet until you have things like norton installed.

erf.

avg has the best virus scanner. norton mostly spends his time building biotech. avg gets the bugs out.

Dr. Doom can only hope to improve
Doom would recommend (if you hadn't thought of it) to install your firewall/anti virus software, -before- you connect your computer to the modem.

Quick Tip! Without a firewall on an unpatched windows system, you can get a virus within 20 or so seconds on shaw, yay!

that must be the problem cuz i have reformatted 3 times now and all 3 times i had the internet hooked up. my next attempt i was going to try un hooking the internet till i had everything up to date. so ya i will give that a try.

stringbeans has a spectacular aura aboutstringbeans has a spectacular aura about
goodluck unhooking your ethernet cable and updating everything heh.. how are you supposed to update your shit if you cant get onto windows update?

best way to go about things is to reinstall without your ethernet cable plugged in. as soon as windows is installed, go and enable your default windows firewall. then plug your ethernet cable back in and run the updates

i dont think ive ever gotten a virus before and i dont even use a virus scanner any more. you just have to be smart with what programs you use and what links you follow

ya i figured out about half way through reformatting that how was i to update windows and norton without being connected to the internet. so im going to try the scanner that oxide recommended. its funny cuz before i plugged the ethernet cable back in, i turned the firewall on but i just checked and it has been turned off. but of course i just got the same virus plus another one called mirc.worm or some shit.

is there anyways i can get the updated defenitions onto a cd so i can load them off a cd or naything like that before i connect or am i just hooped.

im wondering if somewhere this is a bot or something waiting till each time it see's me IP address online and when it does it just sends me the virus again.

its so annoying cuz now i gotta reformat a 5th time and still i dont knwo if any of this shit is going to work.
