IMO, everyone was A LOT more accepting back then. I mean, understandably the idiot losers still got made fun of on lx, but nothing compared to the flaming and cliquiness of today's scene. I miss the old days, there were some great times and great friends, but we're all grown up now. We all have post-secondary, jobs, careers, and responsibilites x100 compared to when we were teenagers. So, it's natural that the old crew grow up and out of our former goofy, silly, who-gives-a-damn ways! I'm just glad I have the memories (and photos) that I do <3 |

Don't you know? Everything used to be better back in the day!
Everything was better before it was mainstream! And I agree with an earlier comment. A friend found out the same thing. If you didn't have a good time, guess who you get to blame? --YOURSELF-- He's generally full of comments/observations like these, and he's usually right about them. |

Raves were kinda better for me back in 2000 - 2002, when it was an adventure going to the smaller parties, all the check-points and shit, and meeting people at skytrain/bus stations that are going to the same party as you or are trying to find it. It was just more exciting back then. I was also alot younger (17 - 19) and alot dumber. I didn't care what I did or what I took (days of shrooms and e at raves). Now, I care more about my body (except for at Doom's Night, 4 fucken caps and couldn't sleep till Monday morning, that wasn't fun) and I think more about the choices I make.
Although, now I can afford to go to all the massives and club nights and see all the dj's that I want to see. The older you get the more choices you get. When you're younger you can't get into clubs and you can't always afford the massives so you go to the smaller/underground parties. Those, were so much fun, so many memories. Now, I just go to the massives and club nights, get really drunk and go of to the music. Its all about the music "music is your ecstasy". Nice, they are playing a old school track "El Esperanza", I'm listening to the DJ Granddaddy live at di.fm I can't really chose when raves were better, they were just different experiances, not better or worse, I love raves and the whole scene, so I'm always gonna be raving, if not at a massive, then defenitly at a club night. Its all about having fun. Can't wait for summer 2005 in Europe, Creamfields, May Day, Trance Energy, Godskitchen, Love Parade here I come. Peace |

Ah, I forgot about the photos, the memories. Okay that did it for me the raves, but in the day were better, I wish I could go back to those times 2000 - 2001. Man I remember when me and a buddy of mine took the Greyhound to Golden, BC for 12 hours each way just to go to a three day rave there called RPM. I only slept like 10 hours if that in the whole three days that we were there, e at night, alcohol during the day, that was one crazy/sketchy rave. Back then being stupid was fun, now I'd never do that. Life was so much better when I was younger, alot less responsibilities not like now, mad responsibilities, "wife/kids", hahaha no not yet, but the scary thing is that those days are coming.
When I graduated from highschool, my History teacher told the class of 2001 something that I will never forget. "Kids when times get tough and they will. Pack yourselves a huge lunch, grab a shoot gun and head for the hills" Words to live by, favorite teacher ever and Mr. Stuart, who went crazy when his gold fish died, hahaha. Buddy got shot with a tranqulizer dart and went to Riverview, poor guy, but its so damn funny, hahaha. Good old Princess Margaret. Did anyone from here go to that high school too? |

Granted I haven't been partying as long as you[5 years in march], I still know the diffrrence between now and I then... from what I see/saw.
I know there were still some problems back then, but they weren't known too well, because no one wanted to get involve just have thier fun. Junglist never really harrassed kandi kids to much in my early days.. But then again.. they weren't harrased by the junglist they were harrassed by the supossed elitist that had thier thumbs shoved too far up their asses. but the Kandi kids were to naive to see it. I would use an examples but I really don't wanna use names. But I do disagree about the scene.. Maybe it's because were attend diffrent parties Dave, I dunno.. But everyones reasoning behind things and so on has changed. I rarely see parties that could be anything similar to 2000, let alone we all know the scene has grown up along with us. But the people that are just starting.. wouldn't have a clue wut they were like then.. simply because they were diffrent. If you were to take an underground party from then and compare it to now. There would be a big diffrence. Take a look at what two_six said.. whens the last time you went a check point?! or had to jump in tha back of a one ton?! and all that other stuff.. pretent your filming a movie!? |

I think it'd probably be most accurate to say that the parties now are "less fun" because perhaps more people are taking themselves too seriously.
Everyone is going on about how they used to be better, and so it brings everyone else down, especially people that may not know any better, and pretty soon, they ARE worse just because less people are having a good time. So next time, set out to make it the best time you've had. Naive, idealist, maybe, but it might rub off on others, helping them have a better time. |

i'd have to live in that time to fully understand how cool those parties were, i work with some people who tell me these stories and yeah 2000 abouts they said were great years but suddenly people have been getting alot more serious about everything...... i mean atkinson and all this drug awareness, it is good and all but anything in big doses cannot be good for people....
everything went down hill 9/11 ............ i just know ever since i was 16 and went to mexico and enjoyed "EVERYTHING" mexico had to offer i have been a way more outgoing person, and much more fun and loving. |

raves are the same. the only thing that has changed is my perception and attitude towards raves. the music, the poeple, the excessiveness, the connectedness are both enjoyable in their own way today and yesterday. for me, raves were better back in the day, but life is better for me today.
