maybe i shouldnt be so reliant on my regular gp, but she says for me going to a tanning bed would be asking for skin cancer. BUT this is due to the genetics of cancer\cancer growth within my family. quite frankly its enough to make me not want to ever do it, or have anyone i care about do it either. my dad did it once, and i was angry beyond beliefe at him.
plus anything that causes me to have to moisturize more or rather, anything that dries out my skin does not seem right. maybe i have no idea, but isnt the coloring of a tan the color of damaged skin? please do correct me, i honestly want to know why it is we change color. and i dont think its a good idea to "cook" yourself under a light, easy bake oven anyone? |

That being said, what is OK for some people in small amounts, can be damaging for others. At my studio, you have to fill out a form about your skin. There are key questions about your ability to tan, and if you are too fair or have the wrong skin type, they won't allow you to tan there. |

Yes, too much sun exposure does cause skin cancer, but why is it that people feel it's alright to excessively tan in the summer but it's not ok to tan using beds? I think Galaxie covered it pretty well in her post. Ashes, if you think that spending money on smoking pot is more justified than spending money tanning then there's something seriously wrong there. I'm not saying one is better than the other I just think it's stupid of you to post something like that because it makes you look like a hypocrite. |

i get that, but what makes the skin turn brown? like what is the chemical process happening? p.s. i dont tan in the summer, i work outdoors in pools, i wear a wet suit, and put 30 spf on my face because the water makes me burn\tan faster, and i put 8 everywhere else because i find it gives me the same protection everywhere else as would a 30. straight up i just dont think tanning is a good thing. every once in awhile i find myself thinking\calling myself pasty or wondering if i should lie in the sun for a bit - then i think of my health. |

The GREAT part about getting a tan is because usually you had fun getting it (you went camping or spent a day at the beach or played sports..whatever)
I find hanging out in some bright booth..and PAYING to get that is just not something I could picture myself doing. But hey, if its your thing then GO for it! oh and I think pasty on me looks beautiful ;) |

for Natalie: I also wanted to mention, phototherapy is also a type of treatment option for people with SAD. however, I'm unsure of whether or not it exposes you to UV rays and if it does, how much UV rays it exposes you to in comparison to tanning salons. --Joanne :P |

I dont think tanning is bad nore good for you. I think it's one of those put into moderation things. Therefore I do it every so often on and off. I tend to get very deprest in the winter time and I blame it all on the weather/lack of sun. Im a sun lover and feel amazing when I tan; relaxed, energized, soo warm... I tend to bring my favorite cd and just block out the world. I do get anoyed at how taning salons smear all this "Vitamin D defeciency" stuff as none of the dr.'s actauly say go fake n bake to cure it. However I would belive the articles that say if you never let the sun hit your skin... that would make you more prone to skin cancer. Kind of like building an amune system. I think if it feels good, makes you look good(have a glow) than maybe mother nature is trying to tell us somthing? Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 17, 04 at 11:59 PM. |

I think it makes sence... just dont over do it and let your skin get too much, build it up slowly. They say about 10 minutes of good sun a couple times a week should be good for you. |

oh lord... okay there is NO CONNECTION... one is for recreation, the other is for vanity. all im saying, its not good for ur skin, because it GIVES YOU CANCER... im not talking about acne.. acne is temporary, cancer can be PERMANENT. werd? werd. |
|

^but you have to take into concideration that never exposing your skin to sun will make you MORE prone to cancer!!!
Does that make any sence or should I explain in further detail? Except for Meghan... thats a tough one if skin cancer is genetic:( |

no, i am simply trying to make the point that continually over exposing your skin to UVA nad UVB rays is BAD for you because it contributes to skin cancer. Does that make any SENSE or should I explain in further detail? |

What kind of a genius are you? SMOKING WEED CAUSES CANCER!!!! Holy crap!! Do you know the amounts of tar and other crap contained in a joint? Jeebus, you ARE a hypocrite! Tanning is not only for vanity, read the rest of the freaking post. And acne can be permanent - for some people there is no effective treatment. And who cares about vanity, anyway? I'd rather look hot than ugly, and anyone who says that they don't care about appearance is a LIAR (unless they are blind). |

oh dear lord. OBVIOUSLY YOU care ALOT about vanity. i never said i didn't care how i look, but im not going to give myself skin cancer.. and dude.. if smoking weed causes cancer... then why do they give it to cancer patients?! it causes chronic bronchitis and chronic asthma at its worst, please, find me ONE case, where someone got ANY kinda cancer JUST from smoking weed, no cigarettes or other such unhealthy things, just WEED. lets see it? im waiting... |

"not good for ur skin, because it GIVES YOU CANCER" -Ashes UVA does not jsut GIVE you cancer, it really depends on the person and how you expose your self to uv rays. Myself and others are trying to explain that its not ALL bad for you. Some is good, and even though for the past 10-20 years weve been over told how bad exposure is... recent studies are saying stop avoiding the rays and stop telling ppl to fear the sun! As I get that imprestion from you? I just find your anti uva comments biast and ignorant. WERD? MAD WERD! Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 18, 04 at 01:26 AM. |

Enjoy your reading! http://www.slam.ca/HealthNews/980818_cancer.html http://www.sarnia.com/groups/antidru.../cncrlink.html http://www.bdtzone.com/news_details....id=51&index=26 Are those three enough for you? Obviously pro-marijuana sites are going to say that it's good and OK for you. I remember reading pro-drug sites when I was 15/16 that also said crystal meth wasn't damaging and cocaine wasn't addicitve. If you believe that shit, you're an idiot. My point about vanity was that everyone is vain to a certain extent, so why discuss it? |
