Buy Nothing Day

http://www.adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/

For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate -- in the doomsday economy, the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that's become our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say to Exxon, Nike, Coke and the rest: enough is enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable course.

In its 13 years, BND has become a flashpoint, a day when people of all stripes come together in symbolic protest. Visit the new BND Action Pyramid for a sample of great ways to celebrate.
Need posters, clip-art, web banners, handbills, radio-clips or stickers? No problem. 2004 BND promotional goods are ready for download.

We've put together a radical new tool to keep Jammers connected: JammerGroups, city-based email networks. Join now.

We've also got news and reports from previous BNDs in our archive. Be in touch as your plans come together,

Happy jamming.

These are 2 ideas that I really like!

Whirl-Mart
Picture a team of jammers in lab coats, quietly pushing empty shopping carts up and down Wal-Mart aisles. Fun enough; definitely Zen. Or, take it to the next level. Fill the carts with junk and buy it all. "On buy nothing day?" you ask. Yes. Did you know that Wal-Mart has a guaranteed return policy? Get your refund and start again. And again. And again. The line-ups can get a bit long, but hey, it's a great opportunity to talk with shoppers.
Caution: Walmart Associates lose their smiles under stress.

Buy Nothing Day is about creating change. But Nov. 26 is only one day. How about, this year, taking the next step and pledging to have a Buy Nothing Christmas as well. It offers a prophetic "no" to holiday commercialization. And a "yes" to a lifestyle that's richer in meaning, smaller in impact, and greater in giving. What better way to start the new year. Challenge your family and friends to spend more time with (instead of money on) each other. To help with the awkwardness of opting out of the gift-giving season, we've put together a gift-exemption voucher (available in the downloads menu on the BND homepage). Give it to your loved ones.

well i left when Paul Dechene left.
You can always go there and volunteer. they desperately need people to do volunteer work. thats what i did. i volunteered for about 8 months. and then got a job there.

the place is awsome. I haven't been there for ever. if you want.. i'll go with you once for a volunteer day.

hoooly this is exactly what jammers are talking about. what, you can't interrupt your busy life and stay home on a friday night, or do something that doesn't require money? "i'll help against fight against the onslaught of consumerism on a monday or tuesday, but fridays are just too damn difficult!"
