questions about nose peircing

so im debating whether or not, and it wont be happening till summer when i actually have money again.
but i have some questions.
i tend to have allergies, and my sinus gets pluged like crazy... is this a problem?
also, im a lifegaurd\competitive swim coach, so im in the chlorine alot, what are the rules for that after its healed?
do i have to get the ring first?

some ladies and myself at school are thinking of getting it done together before we all become artists around the world. but i need to know if its more of a hassel than something gorgeous, and if i should save the money to put onto my next tattoo.

i have crazy allergies and i get sinus infections constantly...

me and my nose dont get along...

but i have no problem with having my nose pierced...the only kinda problems i have had with it is getting the kleenex caught on the nose stud...and it comes out a bit..

its hard to avoid at first...but you get used to it really quickly...same thing can happen with washcloths

as for chlorine...i havent had a problem...i have a hottub and have never had a problem with chlorine..

you should do it!

I have one and I love it. I had a cold not too long ago where I was blowing my nose so much and it came out, and I didn't realize it for a few hours. It almost grew over. If you have a lot of allergies you should get a stud made of white gold or silver, some high quality metal, and you should have no problems. Enjoy!

Hey...

I got my nose pierced about 2 years ago.

Regarding the $ situation, some people may not suggest this, but I will. I drove out to Little India (around 41st and cambie) and got mine done for $10. Now, if you do any research they explicitly tell you DO NOT GET THE GUN, (they say go needle for sanitary purposes) but I chose to disregard their advice and got mine done with the gun for $10. It took about 2 seconds to do, and didn't hurt. My nose healed perfectly (I went to NEXT to get it checked out and they put in a different piercing as well). As far as I'm concered, the Indian culture has been performing this as a ritual far longer than it has been a fad, (something about girls hitting puberty if my memory serves me correctly) so they know what's what. Because they do pierce with a gun, they use a stud rather than a ring in answer to your ring question. Just walk around that area and pop into any of the jewlery stores. They all do it, for 10-15bucks. Plus, Little India's a fun place to visit. *Note: if you decide to do this, take the backing out of your stud during the healing process, gives more room when it's inflamed* And clean it like a mofo.

So you don't necessarily have to spend 70 bucks, you just have to know where to look.

well i spent 60 and got it done at the laughing buddah on university st. (the ave) and i got it in july, right before apex 2004... and its all healed up nice now.. didn't have any problems with it. I LOVE mine, its awesome..

it did hurt tho, i have heard it hurts the most of facial piercings & i think it's probably true. I almost passed out, not cuz it hurt that much, but i jus got this crazy adrenaline rush, and was like WHOA right after it happened. they gave me a lollipop and it was fine. hehe. (gets ur bloodsugar up again)

questions about nose piercing

Well you shouldent be worryed about the dollar situation you should pay more to get it done rather than getting done a some shit place like mack's leathers so many poor peers have gone there , besides the more money that you pay the more it garantees that you'll have a successfull healing piercing , ok theres only really two places i would reccomend you to go and that would be next on granville and 1st on granville and if so i would defenitly tell you to get pierced by jacob at next and ian at 1st there the best and another thing it dosent matter if you get ring or stud first if you go to 1st they'll put a ring in but if you go to next you'll get a stud , the stud at next is a L shape so its hella easy then you go back for a screw with stays in all the time i had problems when i first got mine and i got mine done at next and you have to keep the L shape in for 3 months but then after that you go back for downsize which is the screw but like i said ive had mine for almost 2 years and i hasent fallen out once not to say it is also easy to take out , and with you nose stuffed and what not i dont think it is a problem and with clorinhe i would recommened you to get it before summer then because it can and probably will cause reaction to the piercing only because it is strong with both places they use non allergic jewelry im also allerigic to fake jewelry and i never had a problem not once in the two times i got it pierced but for sure you'll spend a little more but much worth it and also if you go to next you get aromatharapy before you go in and plus before you get it they educate you about it so you leave knowing everything to watch out for ext. so hoppe that helped

no offence but ,judging from your avtar, your nose is fairly narrow, and imo i dont think a nose ring would suit you at all.

but if you do get it done just clean it all the time and rotate the ring and youll be fine.

I, like Addy, got mine pierced with a gun at a little Indian jewelry store on Main at 49th (it has a blue awning). It was like $10, maybe $15. After two days, I took out the earring that it was pierced with, and put in a little silver stud that I bought from the Loft in Richmond Centre (now called La Foret). It was one of the ones with a little ball on the end to hold it in place. I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol, and the piercing was healed completely within two weeks! I've never had any problems with it since, and I looooooove it to this day.

My advice is that once it's healed, take it out at night, in the shower, when you wash your face, etc., this will allow the piercing to breathe, and to be cleaned, and it will also avoid the skin healing to the metal and getting stuck. This is especially true if your stud is white or yellow gold, since gold is a more porous metal.

In any case, I think it would look super cute on you!

i had mine done and i work at a pool, blowing bubbles and such all day. Mine was fine even with chlorine in it the day after it was peirced.(but then Ive always had good luck with peircings) A co-worker of mine though, had hers done and looked after it really well but her skin was sensitive and the combination of open flesh and chlorine made it infected and it started to grow over. She took it out and the swelling and such went down and now has no scar.

Basically point being, try to get it done when you dont need to be in the water or around its fumes for a while. :)

first of all if you took it out even healed it will still grow over remember its cartalidge and it takes only minutes for it to heal over not a night! and do not clean with rubbing alcohol or any such substances especially with new piercings it to harsh on your piercing and skin and will cause the skin to pull away, if anything use softsoap antibactirial

You should not get peirced with a gun. It's not possible to sterilize those guns, as they would have to be heated up so hot, they would melt. Myra used to work at NEXT and I know she can give the full details... but it's just not a good idea.

I was going to mention the same point as LDUB. Peircing guns can't be cleaned properly therefore there's a much much much higher chance of contracting hepatitis and infections.

alright, everyones info rocks.

yah i dont mind spending more money on a peircing, i figure i'll probably go to sacred heart in kits, its where i get my tatttoos, and my brother has had peircings there. i've talked to the peircer, and i dig them as a person.

goddessa - no offense taken. thats actually been one of the things holding me back as well, but i do have a small indent on the sides of my nose, where a very small stud would look killer in.

thats another question to all - is it very specific on where they peirce it? or can i point to the spot\general area of where i want it?

junglequeen - im thinking im going to do it on my 2 week break from lessons and coaching, i heal pretty fast. i am working indoors, but its a small private pool... so i should be ok... right?

Wow, so not true it's not even funny!

'Cause I've had mine out for over a month, and I just stuck a stud back in there NO PROBLEM. My tragus (thickest cartilage piercing possible other than septum) has been out for four days and I will put it back in tomorrow morning with no problems, guaranteed.

^ yah, i figure it takes more than a couple of hours to grow over.
plus peroxide is good for any wound.... and a peircing is a wound. maybe i grew up in upside down world, but unless if you have a serious infection, peroxide is a great thing to use. i agree that when washing my face\nose to use antibacterial non-scented soap, but i use that anyways.
but hey, i dont have anything peirced other than my ears, cant say much about the whole thing.

when i first got my nose pierced when i was like uhm 13 or summin, i couldnt sleep with it out even when it was healed because a layer of skin would grow back and it kinda fucking hurt to jab my stud through it again.

i wouldnt advise anybody to take out any piercing over night or for days at a time until theyve had thier piercing for atleast two years.

even now,i went for months without wearing my nose ring, and when i decided i wanted to rock it again i had to break through layers of skin in order to get the fucker through and it hurts like a mutha!

use ear piercing solution to clean around the stud,if you want to change the stud wait atleast 2 days.

I have had my nose pierced twice, once with a surgical steel ring (then I later decided I didn't like the placement, it was to "punk" for me) and later with a white gold corksrew stud. Both times I had it pierced with a needle, bc from my personal experience, my cartilege, such as that of my ear, likes to shatter when u pierce it with a gun, and then absess. *thumbs down* The first time I got mine pierced was at First (now Custom) on Granville, and the second time was a MUCH better experience at Paul's in Langely. I have no probs with it now, whether I have a cold or going swimming, bc u get used to working around it quite easily. I personally am against piercings with guns, but I know a few people who have had luck with them. Trouble is, I know more people who've had problems with them! Little India sounds like a good deal, but I would never do it. I don't like the risk of nasty scar tissue on my nose for the world to see should something go wrong. Just my 2 cents. Natalie and Addy prolly have more luck with piercings than I do. *shrugs*

GOOD LUCK!
