the body count alone could be welll oever 100,000
and then possibly double that with disease.
one of the worst natural disasters in history.
sooooo sad... :(
i don't even know what to say.

it's sickening
CNN has a tendency to over-exagerate numbers, but regardless the death toll is atrociously high, the Red Cross says it may double if because of disease from all the bodies

"Farther south along the coast in Kenya, one person died and 50 fishing boats were destroyed, authorities said, while 10 people were killed while swimming in the ocean in Tanzania and two fishermen were missing in the Seychelles islands, a tiny archipelago off the coast of Tanzania. "

i would assume he was in a boat and drowned.

It is nice to see the immense support from our country and others! :)

Canada increases tsunami aid to $40 million

The world's richest nations have pledged more than $250 million US in emergency aid --that includes $68 million from Spain, $35 million from the United States and $30 million from Japan. Britain has pledged $29 million.

did you know it would have cost about 200k to have had a tsunami detection system in thailand?

probably woulda knocked those numbers in half if all those countries 'splurged' on the warning system. but hey, they only live on the coast in an area that's vulnerable.

RIP
All souls that were lost....
I'm praying for all the familys that lost...
Or anyone who lost a loved one.
I'm sorry to hear such a tragic thing,
and I shed a tear,

and light a candle!

I read 5mill...

I also read that places around the world knew about the quake... did the send an emergency message to these places to tell people to head for high ground?! No :( how effing sad.

Dr. Doom can only hope to improve
You know what the world needs?
More disasters like this, preferably with video coverage. This tsunami has generated quite the amusing news week for doom.

it's 200k, because the sensors and all that jazz are already set up to monitor that shiat. it woulda cost 200k for a base system to 'link up' w/ the current sensors.

a full on system woulda been 5mill.

Wow, I can't believe we're donating more than the US. I guess the UN wasn't just talking shit when they called the US contribution 'stingy'

35million for relief aid. 80+billion for the war.

yea, i have a feeling they could have improved foreign relations just a bit here if they flipped those 2 numbers around.
