Can a passport be renewed?
No, you must re-apply by providing a completed application form signed by an eligible guarantor. You must also provide two identical photos and an original document of proof of Canadian citizenship, as you did when you applied for your first passport. Why are Canadian passports not renewable? Canadian passports are valid for five years only and a new passport must be obtained upon expiry. This is in accordance with the Canadian Passport Order (SI/81-86) which governs passport issuance. Processing times By mail 4 weeks (20 working days) This does not include mailing time. In person at a regional office 2 weeks (10 working days) This does not include the day the application is submitted. At a participating post office 3 weeks (15 working days) This does not include mailing time. At a participating Human Resources and Skill Development Canada (HRSDC) Service Canada Access Centre 4 weeks (20 working days) This does not include mailing time. Passports - urgent applications Note: Urgent or express services are available for emergency or compassionate reasons on a case-by-case basis. These services are available only for those applicants who can apply in person at a regional passport office and who provide proof to justify the urgency. Urgent next working day $70 + passport fee Express 2 to 9 working days after receiving application $30 + passport fee http://www.ppt.gc.ca/passports/how_obtain_e.asp Last edited by narc; Feb 02, 05 at 03:50 PM. |

go to your local passport office, they have these envelopes with all the papers and instructions in em'. there's an office in sinclair centre dt.
fill it all out, get your pics taken, get it signed by a 'special person' then you can either send it in by mail or drop it off in person. dropping it off in person is a whole lot faster, and you'd probably encounter less problems. i waited till i planned my trip too renew my passport. it doesn't take that long too get it. |
