Is the dancefloor still the same? Damn, that's one of my favorite in the city.

I'm overdue for fun at the lotus, it's my favorite club.

^sort of....the dancefloor is in the same place, but the dj booth is now between where the bass bins used to be, so if you're one of those people who faces the dj when you dance you'll be facing a different direction....

and if it's been to long i expect you down there for our 6 year anniversary, no excuses and work be damned!

Heh... I did find it there, too, but mostly dead centre. Never have much liked the centre of dancefloors; more of an Off-To-The-Side-Near-Front-Speakers type.

I agree with Jay... the stuff we play on Wednesdays is from all corners of the musical spectrum, and the production levels vary all over the map. Specially with the early 90s and the 80s tracks, where the kicks were not as hard as today's electronica, etc... .and heck, some of the tracks are off cheaply pressed LPs from the 70s/80s/90s and definately don't sound as good as a 12" electronica single on a heavy vinyl pressing... And we play CDs, MP3 tracks burned onto CD, and a variety of other things :) But hey, I guess we tested the system from all perspectives, hehehehehehe... If it sounds good on a Wednesday, it will definately sound good on any other night :-)

By the way, we WERE EQing on Wednesday... I was not spinning on Wednesday myself, but I kept an eye all night and would go up to the DJ booth and make adjustments while the other DJs were playing. I found there to be too much high end, even while cutting the highs down to more than half.

But as Dabbler said, it is going to take some time for this new system to be fine tuned. Hopefully after the tweaks by the engineer, it will sound better this Wednesday! Come out this week to check it out if you missed out last week, as we have a special reading break party planned... And also make sure to come check out Automatic's 6 year on Tuesday!!! Gonna be off da hook!

Definately a step in the right direction...

peace.

yeah the high's were hella bright for sure, we had it at like 10 oclock or so. by eqing i mean they need to change the master eq so the levels on the mixer can be all straight up, and it'll sound phat. hopefully they did that this weekend (i think they were going to on friday?)

/\ yeah, we had it around 10 o'clock as well most of the evening... we had to, otherwise people's ears would bleed from the highs ;-) I tend to stay away from tinkering with the master settings of rigs in clubs usually, for obvious reasons (well, usually the people who have spent a bunch of time tuning the system and are trying to further tune it, do not like it when I go and play with their settings ;-)

oh yeah, regarding the name Team Trainwreck, we did not pick that because we don't know how to mix, or we are newbie DJs, etc... on the contrary... Chris and I have been DJing electronica for about 10 years each, and Glyn has also been DJing for over 6 years and we are total electronica and music snobs (in a good way) in general and know our shit... But we just are not into taking ourselves seriously and just want to have a good time, and we used that name to reflect that.

On new year's eve 2004, the three of us ended up randomly tagging during my DJ slot at our new year's party at the Anza Club. Chris had brought a ton of those little alcohol samplers and his jacket resembled a liquor store! He kept feeding Glyn and I drinks, and by the end of the night we were pretty drunk... We were spinning an electro/breaks set and by the end of the night, he whipped out a 7" of a Janet Jackson track, and to our surprise, he tried to mix it... Let's just say "tried" is the key word here... after being at it for several minutes, and not being able to cue the record, as the needle kept sliding, Glyn and I faded the record and shut down the party :-) We just thought that whole evening and that experience was so memorable, and thought we would give ourselves a tongue and cheek name, and call ourselves Team Trainwreck.

Yes, we know what we are doing, but above all, we like to have a good time... cause if we do, then so does the crowd, or we just get them as drunk as us, and then the problem is solved :-) Isn't that why people go out? to have a good time?
