Art Schools in Van(Computer Arts)
Hello,
I was wondering if any one knows any good Art schools with Computer Arts program (Interactive Media Design or Intergrated Media if you prefer...)With Degree or else Diploma I've been looking around lately and don't seem to find anything more besides Emily Carr and The Art Institute of Vancouver in Vancouver Area of course...I^'ve noticed a few others but either its in Victoria and other place to fare away, or the program is not what Im looking for... |

Just a few off the top of my head. Have fun checking schools out, and hope you have a successful future :) |

Although Emily Carr is pretty much just oriented towards drawing (art) as well as sculpting too I believe. I don't believe they have anything to offer in the field of computers. AI is a costly school. And once I finished touring both schools and even going to a program at the Burnaby building for 2 days or so, I got the type of feeling that just anyone with enough money could go there. It feels kind of nice to work hard for your acceptance into a school as opposed to just paying your way through it. |

My dad went to BCIT when he was younger. The school is amazing, hands down. I don't believe i've ever heard any bad gossip and/or facts about the school in my approximate 3 years of being interested in technical institutes :) |

Right now im in grade 12. I'll be graduating in about 4 months and im really confused as to what exactly I want to do :(
I'll probably work for a while to try and get my mind off of things and relax. Then go back to school as soon as possible. |

I had a very bad first impression of AI...I requested information on programs there a cuples times....once in October 2004:Never received anything....and one In December only received a piece of paper like a short promo of there schools nothing more(when I precificaly asked for Computer Arts) and askedin January So forget it, seriously....I'm really starting to wonder if that school is even worth a try??? I've heard alot of good of Emily Carr institute indeed...My application is done anyway, just need to send my portfolio... http://www.vfs.com/ 12'500$ tuition is that a year? ^ http://www.vfs.com/admissions.php?re...ection=tuition North Vancouver how far is taht from Downtown and Burnaby? |

want some good first hand advice?
well i go to emily carr...hell im sittin in class right now. other than the bad wireless connections in some of the stupid cement rooms, this school is the best thing that has happened to me. im not sure what ure planning in getting to in the future as a career, but EC has LOTS of departments and sub departments. If you're entering teh school from foundation year (first year) dont treat that year too seriously in setting an example for EC. All my fellow classmates really believe that this school should be 3 years instead of 4, because foundation year is completely bs and they pressure you to explore options. (may be good to some, but not so good to others... i knew i wanted to get into graphic/communication design from the day i was born) anywaysss.. so right now im in 2nd year communication design and its a lot of fun.. the faculty here are all working designers/artists and they really guide the students to understand all aspects of the career and prep them for the future. you may hear rumors that EC here is really artsy base and "hippyish" the school has done a lot of transition over the years and it really depends how you want to approach what you learn. the design program here (industrial design and communication design) really shows you both the visual aspects as well as marketing/business. this is just my second semester in this program and ive already taken SO much with me, learning how to use professional programs, developing my own style, touching base in things from photography, illustration to motion work, and importantly understanding how to present things professionally and building my portfolio on a daily basis. im not sure what graphic design (computer arts) you want to get into, like you know there is integrated media (which covers A LOT of different forms of art..even performance art), animation, comm design and industrial design. if u want more info or tips on your portfolio let me know via pm or email me at [email protected]. =) if ure startin from foundation..best of luck to your "map your week" just be as creative as possible. =) alsooo.. my input on choosing schools. im not a fan of AI AT ALL. i actually really look down to the curriculum a lot. i dont find them able to apply their "computer arts" to anything. ive seen porfolio that has come out of the school and things aren't even presented/mounted properly. all in all, i think art school is more an attitude than anything..its how much effort and time you put in it. you create your portfolio while the teachers just guide and assign open projects. i love EC cuz its a well known international school, and you leave with a degree and a rad portfolio. there is a reason why the majority of the students here travelled to be here, i think only 2 out of 10 kids here are from vancouver. neat fact. =) Last edited by bebu*funfun; Feb 15, 05 at 12:00 PM. |
