i would like to be remembered on this earth after i die, especially for writing a great novel or making a great film (regardless of whether i become rich from it). money isn't that big of a thing for me, but i would like to become famous through my writing or films. that way a little piece of me will continue to live after i'd died.

That's a good way of seeing fame.
I was thinking of fame more in the celebrity sense. Paprazzi everywhere, fans screaming wanting to mug you, creepy stalkers. I definitely don't want that. I want to have privacy.
You can still be remembered for being rich. You can pass your fortunes down to your heirs, own something extravagant and everyone will know you for it. But I see your point on having your art live on even after you die. It reminds me of that poem, Ozymandias lol.
Also, on a different thought, it is possible to be incredibly rich and not have anyone know about it. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Elaine from Seinfeld) is actually an heiress to a fortune worth more than Paris Hilton's. Not many people know this, I wouldn't have if my friend hadn't written a paper on it.
