you should be able to set it up yourself - just read the instructions that came with your router. It essentially password protects and encrypts your open connection so that say, your next door neighbor can't leech off your internet. Someone with the knowledge and truly malicious intent could easily get into your computer via the wireless network and steal info/fuck with your computer/etc.
however, if your connection isn't set to "broadcast" then you should be safe - it's still probably a good idea to secure your server anyway tho... |

Futureshop & Bestbuy are both selling a small device that you can attach to your keychain which detects wireless networks.. I was tempted to buy it.
