Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)
Here's the skinny
Im sure as some of you may know Microsoft has launched a new tool for the frontline on Spyware defence. Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware is a daily scanning and upkeep tool which monitors your PC for any sort of foul activity your installed applications might be doing in the background. However it maybe in Beta stages, I would like to reccomened it to anyone having exsessive spyware issues. It will update on it's own much like your Virus protector so don't worry too much about keeping up to date. Things to know

I went and got a fresh version of Microsoft Antispyware from microsoft.com after reading this thread. Actually I got a message about 6 weeks ago that it was auto-installed on my computer but I couldn't find it so was unable to run it at that time.
So I ran the new version and it found an "unclassified spyware loader" in file grwinsthlp.exe and so I let it delete it. Then I also ran ad-aware and spybot S&D and they also found a few suspicious cookies which they eliminated. Then I wanted to delete some old unused programs so I try to start Control Panel and it won't run! And the computer is acting really slow, which is rare, normally this is a very solid and fast computer. I reboot a couple of times and Control Panel still won't run, but on the 3rd reboot it runs OK. Don't know WTF that was about! Questions are: Why wouldn't C.P. run? Why did the C.P. problem disappear after a while when I didn't do anything to fix it except a few reboots? I have had some recent problems in that Internet Explorer recently got hijacked to an URL at msn.com (Microsoft Network). I have all the XP updates and a router/firewall so this shouldn't be happening. Damned hackers! |

Off the top of my head me thinks M$ Spyware app is fighting it out with your other two (lol) applications. A.S. (Microsoft Anti-Spyware) is made as a standalone app, where running other programs while your A.S. is live (realtime scanning) might interfere. Not sure however, just first thoughts.
