i was in the OR yesterday and saw a bowel resection done. they started off with a scope, but had to open the patient up because she had too much scarring from previous operations

they don't just make the patients fast for a few days, they undergo a bowel cleanse as well

the camera can't get into the pockets of the colon, so you can't see every nook and cranny

to answer your question, i'm not sure
all i can say is that i feel better and i've been told that i'll feel even better after the next treatment

after that, i'll try to go in every 4-6 months for maintenance

the only uncomfortable part is when they insert the probe into your rectum, but it's not a big deal

i didn't do it to help with weight loss, i just wanted to experience it and try to get de-clogged
i've been taking a couple of really healthy shits a day and always feel bloated
and that AFTER cutting out a lot of dairy
=/

I was sorta under the impression that little bits of BM would not make a significant difference in terms of the benefits the patient would get (but then again, I'm clearly no expert in colon health. heh).

I also realize that laxatives are taken on top of the fasting.. I just wasn't sure how much cleaner this made the colon and if fasting alone could make the colon pretty clean already :)

but anyway, I was just curious to know because it made me wonder about people who fast every month or so and whether or not that would have a similar impact on their colon health as colon hydrotherapy.

how much did the treatment cost anyway?

not eating before surgery has more to do with making sure you're stomach is empty so you don't aspirate during the procedure

i don't think fasting has anything to do with cleaning out your colon
it doesn't make things in there move any quicker
if anything, not eating constipates you because there's no stimulus in the GI tract to make things move in the first place

i paid about fifty bucks

the patient undergoing the colonoscopy was not fasting to prevent aspiraton. he was fully conscious during and after the entire procedure and sent home about an hour or so later. it's actually part of the bowel prep so that the colon could be clean enough for the doctor to inspect better for polyps and other abnormalities.

and having dealt many times with the concept of constipation, I've never heard of fasting causing constipation.. :047:

I don't think he was actually NPO, but just not eating any 'real foods', and instead some clear fluids.. which I've known some people to do when they're fasting...

sorry for the misunderstanding.
