Just because it was over the border and it was 8 people you didnt know, doesnt mean you should crack jokes on the internet about it, this is serious. What if it was your school, and some of your friends, now I know it wasnt, but seriously, grow the fuck up. |

There's no doubt that this is tragic and serious. But, you just found out that 8 PEOPLE ARE DEAD and seem to think it's uncommon. The more you pretend that school children are an issue, the more of a problem they'll become. There are other tragedies that deserve a lot more attention if you're looking for something to cry over. |

When a person dies a person dies, dont matter who they are or what happened its still sad.
Yes lots of people die in Africa because of AIDS and its terrible nonetheless, but its still very sad to see that a kid walked into school and took the lives of others with a gun. |

I happen to be a very compassionate person and these things do bother me. Unfortunately I am just a piece of sand when it comes to most of these things. I am far from naive. How about this, just because there are people dieing all over the world, does it make this situation any less tragic? Personally, I don't think so. |

^^^ (edit: not you wum :))
You want people to think it's a bigger tragedy because it happened in America. "Maybe if it didn't happen at an aboriginal high school then people would care more." Wrong. They don't care about this tragedy any less than the dozen others that happened today. You care more about this because you want race to be an issue. It's not; most people won't even give it that much thought. Last edited by sinnerman; Mar 22, 05 at 04:49 PM. |

^Dude, I'm a white guy, I'm hardly playing the race card. In the same breath there is no doubt in my mind it would have received a bit more attention had it been 8 American white kids.
As I said before, which apparently you were too slow to pick up on, my biggest point is that I don't find it to be a situation that we should LAUGH at. If someone had made a post about a car bombing in Israel would I laugh at that? Nope. If someone made a post about Sudanese refugees being murdered would I laugh at that? Nope. The post was in reference to a certain thing and people made a joke of it. I didn't think it was funny.... so sue me. |

Yes it's a sad event. Death is never a joyous occassion. I didn't mean to make fun of the victims here. I wasn't even thinking about the victims when I made my posts. I guess I'm saying that the thought of that is separated from the thought of the actual event, looking at the bigger picture. I was basically referring to how the Columbine shooting was blamed on artists, and pretty much everything else except those that made sense.
You have to remember that this board is hardly the place where people get serious. Just because people are joking about it now doesn't mean they're cruel, heartless people. I don't think chastizing people for their comments on here would do any help. If you were really sensitive about it, maybe it wasn't a good idea to read the thread. Certain people will always find humour in all kinds of twisted things. This doesn't mean they're heartless. They just distance themselves from the emotion of the situation. |
