Blogging - news

I'm doing research for my paper on alternative news sources. I just wondered if anyone knew of any good blogs that could be used as new sources, or if anyone could recall certain events which blogs reported pretty well. I think someone told me that during the Bush/Kerry election, blogging played a pretty big part in the voting process. Another example would be the war in Iraq. Anyone know of anything else?
