extended warranties

does anyone actually buy extended warranties?
my ipod headphones crapped out after 4 months and I went back to future shop and they just gave me brand new ones. thanks extended warranty (altho it did cost $50) Ive never actually bought the extended warranty but i'm sure glad I did. They told me that if anything goes wrong with my ipod..they replace it. So i would strongly suggest anyone who is buying an ipod to buy an extended warranty.

I bought an extended waranty on my cellie. Good thing bc I've sent it back twice in 2 yrs to have it worked on, and one time I saw the bill and it woulda been $107. Yeah I paid $150 for the phone itself a year and a half earlier... I don't think I'd have wanted to have sprung for the repair bill. Go extended waranties.

I worked at FutureShop. Our managers basically told us to lie to sell the warranty! I couldn't sell something I didn't believe in! Sure big items it's good, but screw it! They give you 6 years extended on a TV, but the TV won't crap out until the 7th, 8th or 9th year! Big waste! They push it big time! At Futureshop the warranty sales have to be 7% of the stores total sales or heads start rolling!

My advice is when they ask a question like "Is the preformance of your item a concern of yours" Say yeah that's why I'm buying something NEW!!!

for me they've saved me about 500 bucks. over the past 2 years i've goen through lots of mp3s' and i'm on my 4th or 5th one right now. i don't humm them at the walls or anything, i'm the kinda person that takes really good of my things and my mp3 is my music supplier so i treat it good. how i look at is how mobile is the thing going to be: mp3, phones, yes extended warranty, dvd players, tvs, computers are less likely to get damaged.

four months? man, I was on my third Apple eardrops only two weeks into my purchase. I ended up returning the whole unit after my fifth return in under a month. lucky for me I caught my full money return.

obviously I had a warranty, its' foolish not to. the store basically takes over were the manufactures setup after the first X year(s). leaving you with a direct person and department to argue out your problems. not some shanty 1-800 operator who only in turn gives you a mailing addy to ship to.

Just remeber that you can ALWAYS cut a deal on the extended service plan. Dosnt matter where you go, the sales people make TONS of cash selling them and you would be suprised how low then can go and still make a profit.

I am a sales person at united furniture, i make about %85 of my bonus off service plans. I can sell a plan for less then half the price of what it is actually posted as, and i still make a nice bonus.

Only problem with that is that most sales people that have been doing sales for a very long time will see through your "talk like you have major money" like a sheet of glass, its not hard. Being a sales person is all about reading people.

I bought a cordless phone for my 16th birthday and with it, purchased a 3 year warrenty! I probably exchanged the phone 6 times for new colours/models, before they finally said you cant have anymore!!! I also got one with my mp3 player, which for up to two years I can exchange it for a brand new one if anything happens.. I figure 2 months before it ends i'll get get a new one!! ;D

dude you are so right! im in sales at the brick, so i know all about what your saying.

now as far a warrntys go. its a good idea to put it on everything. but there are a few items wich are absolute musts!

Big screen t.vs, washing macheins, fridges and laptops.

as the one person said, ipods and all other small portable electronics are a crap shoot. so just consider the price of repair
