How can you tell if your phone is being tapped?

I know it sounds stupid... but just wondering. Last night i phoned a friend of mine for some weed, told him to meet me at mcdonalds, so as hes leaving i see a undercover cop pull into the parking lot of the restaurant beside us, stops in the middle of the enterance, turns his light on and does some stuff, so... i just ignore that, and make another phone call and i say you wanna blaze and talk about some shit, meet at freds tackle.... so as were driving by theres 2 cops in this parking lot.... so wtf, how do i find out of my phones being tapped

I think they need something like a court decision in canada if they want to do that. If you here some cracking in the background, it could be ur phone is being tapped

Crackling in the background is 99% of the time wire connection meef. Usually a new phone cord will fix that right up.

Back in the day, the phreakers used to know that 211 would tell you what phone number you were dialing from (useful for payphones with no number on 'em). Nowadays AFAIK it doesn't work, but what I do know is that when you'd dial the 211, if you didn't get any answer it meant your phone was being tapped.

Nowadays phreaking in general tends to be a dead art, mainly because ma bell wised up around the mid-90s and actually had measures to keep people out of the phone system.

You could check the Spy Store on Broadway. They might have some equipment you can use.

we have a number that you can call... it's like a reg phone number, and if your phones being tapped, it makes this weird sound, otherwise it just rings and rings.

And I mean, if you are just careful about what ur talking about, then it shouldnt be a problem... You could use some shit like, let´s go listen to some cd´s . Instead of do you wanna blaze. In Italy we never say the words weed or hash on the phone.

lol, weed and hash or whatever is fine... and its not the fact of me being careful.. its about people saying what they say right when they phone.... im not saying anything online about this, i was just wondering how i can figure out if my phone is being tapped, ashes number wont work cuz im in canada..... but does anyone have any other ways please?

i think she meant maybe its your friends phone. or possibly the other guys phone. it's possible that one of the calls was tapped and the other incident was a coincidence. or maybe both were coincidences, heh.

phone your friends and make some plan to sell huge amounts of crystal, coke and heroin at some location like a park. then send in some local crackheads giving them $5 to do some task that involves them going into the location at the time you said the "big deal" was going down.
if the cops swarm, your phone was tapped.
if they don't swarm, you're paranoid.

haha, well i was thinking of just saying something like meet me here in 10 minutes and well.. what happens if i just go there, and i dont have anything, weed.. or anything, they cant really do much right? or if i go around there, but i was thinking about doing something like that, not to that extreme, but something like that..

Also, if you hear alot of random *clicks* that can be a tell-tale sign. I used to run with a bad crowd (both here and in Van) years ago and got to deal with a few tapped phone lines- not fun. :032:
Chances are it may have just been coincidence, although I don't know what Chilliwack coppers are like so I can't really say.
But if you're still kinda worried about it just make up fun fake names for weed and hash.. it can be funny and entertaining to do so. lol :054:
