there's a big difference between spamming and ripping people off, though. spam doesn't necessarily involve scamming people.

Maybe not, but at least 99% of spam is used for whoring out fake or useless garbage to people who don't care/know enough to actually want/need it.

Spamming is immoral, I don't know if it's THAT immoral.

Best punishment would be to take away any and all profits they made from it, plus extra fines.. only thing people like that understand is money.

Although I guess spending some time in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison could be a good deterrent too.

way to pick a random number with nothing to back it up. haha. and why wouldn't people spam unless they wanted to rip you off, it's free advertising. when solid corp spams our mailboxes, it's to make people buy tickets, not to try and rip us off. yeh, in this case it was a scam, but i wouldn't say 99% of cases are trying to do that.

Spam is kind of annoying. But I never got a "MAKE YOUR PENIS WAY BIGGER" Email and thought "Man, someone should do about nine years in jail for that".

unfortunately i have to not only deal with spammers but with rabid anti-spammers, who are just as bad.

it's led me to a place where i really don't care about spammers anymore. i wish both groups would kill each other off.

there is something fucked about a criminal justice system where someone who spams people over the internet can get a longer sentence than a rapist or drunk/hit and run drivers.

i never really had a problem with spam, it was only ever like 3 or 4 every couple days. and you know how i stopped it? i stop replying to those damn chain letters. all the sudden the spam in my inbox decreased to about 1 every week. SURPRISE SURPRISE! :P

Sure this guy probably annoyed a bunch of people but I would have to agree with Rawb in that 9 years is a bit much when there are way bigger crimes out there. Spam is annoying but just delete it when you get it, it only takes a few seconds and it's not like they're life threatening either.

Very true, there is spamming, then there is scamming. The lines are very often blurred, i don't pay much attention to them so im not sure which are legit companies and which are not.

I think this requires futher testing, who wants to volunteer for an experiment?
