Haunted Bars in Vancouver
Who else has had an "experience" in a bar, here in Van?
The Alibi Room is haunted. It's listed in a book, "Canadian Ghost Stories Vol II". We shot there, over a year ago, for "Battlestar Gallactica". We'd been on the main floor for most of the day, before moving downstairs to shoot a couple of scenes. I was downstairs for the first take, to make sure all was tickety-boo w/ the set, then, went upstairs to hang for the rest of the takes, because it was so crowded down there. I sat on a stool at the top of one set of stairs, and one of the AD's were on a stool on the other side of the room, by the front door. After they cut the 2nd take, the AD starts bitching over the walkie that they could hear all the walking around upstairs, and that we should make sure no one moves during the roll. The AD and I looked at each other across the place with our mouths hanging open in surprise; no one was moving during the take! Between us, we had a bead on the entire upstairs level. No one was moving. The AD made the compulsary statement to not move during the roll. After they cut from take 3, again, the AD from downstairs started to berate the crew for walking around, upstairs, during the roll. Stunned, the AD and I locked eyes; no one moved during the roll. Reputedly, the haunting @ the Alibi Room likes to bang the doors in the downstairs men's bathroom. Remember the RaT? The Rose and Thorn pub? Now it's re-opened as the Kingston. One day, sitting at the main-floor bar, gabbing w/ the bartender, I turned when he addressed a kitchen staffer, coming in the front door. He tried to close the door, twice, and just headed off to the kitchen. As the bartender and I watched, the door proceeded to open and close, on it's own, 3 times. Wrenched opned and slammed shut, each time. As I turned to the bartender, I asked him if he was aware that they had a ghost, just as he turned to me and said "That's the ghost". ?! He then went on to tell me how the old RaT staff were brought in for a complimentary dinner and drinks. Eventually, one of the Kingston staff asked the RaT staff if they'd ever had any "problems" while they worked there. "Oh, you mean the ghost." Therein ensued a volley of shared experiences that the bartender related to me. The Macaroni Grill, once known as Hy's Mansion. Haunted. Third floor. Heard some unusual noises when I was working there, dressing a set for a shoot. Cambrian Hall. Owned by the Welsh society. Went there for a surf and turf show (ska and rockabilly). My first time there. I felt like I was being shoved around by school-yard bullies! Literally being physically shoved. My bud's g/f nearly wore my drink at least 3 times! Almost evertime I tried to take a drink, it was like someone grabbed my arm and shoved it, trying to spill my drink. I was out of there within 30 minutes. So, anyone else have any stories of the local watering holes? Frosty (Not looking for this stuff to happen) |

Last summer we were at Jakes Crossing Pub in Port Moody little over a year ago, filming a feature film.
We were on the main floor pub/restaurant area and had just finished a scene, before lunch. The 1stAD (an american) called lunch and the crew bolted to the catering truck. I had two Production Assistants watching over the main set which was taped off as a "HOT SET" (A set that is set up for the next shot. No one but the set dresser or property master may touch anything on a HOT SET.) After lunch the 1stAD came over the radio screaming furiously. Apparently over lunch someone decided to rearrange the furniture on the "hot set" |

jakes? really? that makes me want to go there more often then not. i've never heard of anything in there before, and ive grown up in port moody. the old city hall is apparently haunted. and i swear there was something in the forest behind my old townhouse - but my brother used to scare the crap outta me with stories about a man that lived in the forest and that probably insured a healthy imaginationf or whenever i was in there. in my old townhouse (the brown ones behind dairy queen on st. johns) we used to have things slide from the backs of the shelves to the front and fall off - i was scared shitless, but apparetnyl it was from the ground shifting or something? i donno. |

mugsy under wiggelsworth: holy shit you just reminded me. i was ina play with stage 43 back when i was 12, and we used to rehearse in one of the abandoned buildings at riverview. i dont know what it was, but in that building i just had this feeling that i couldnt be alone. and i would seriously freak out if anyone left me alone. the bathroom was in the back of the huge space, and i couldnt even walk to it by myself because i felt too far away from everyone. i couldnt shut the bathroom door- i had to leave it a crack open. it wasnt even real decisions i was making i just had to - like something was making me. fuck even remembering it makes me shiver. i hated it there. it was fucking terrifying. my dad and i went around some of the property one day and i got the same feeling while in the car, i was with my dad. hes the guy that can beat anything up for me\protect me, and i was shaking. fuck that place is just awful. the property is beautiful and the buildings are amazing, but i just can not handle it there. |

While you were there, did you ever meet Lucifer? He lives in the sub-basement in the tunnels. |

My dad's old house used to be haunted.... huge, beautiful house.... 100years old... apparently the original owners were a messed up family... the one son murdered a bunch of ppl and the other committed suicide in his room.
I used to be scared shitless in his house.. my little sister used to cry and couldn't sleep(her room was the one where the kid apparently committed suicide) doors always opened and closed, we used to hear talking coming from other rooms, and once... my dad, his wife, and myself were walking up the stairs to the 3rd floor and we saw a face staring at us from the black glass(not reflective) that was on the wall above us... we all saw it and it scared us all.... my dad only lived in that house for 2years before he sold it and moved to vancouver(the house is in lethbridge, alberta) I was in lethbridge about a year ago and decided to go work(door to door) did my dads old house, signed the guy up for the nat. post... asked him about the house being haunted, he stepped outside, closed the door, because apparently his wife is scared shitless of the house and wanted to move, but he tries to rationalize with her... but he told me a bunch of freaky stories about the house. kinda creepy. |

yeah i've had a lot of experiences with ghosts, it's pretty common
one time i was stayin in an old bed n breakfast and at 3a.m the spirit opened and closed every door in the house (front door locked, just us + owners) and slammed em too.. then we were throwin stuff in our car and i walked down the stairs, staring at the 2 sliding glass doors and a big white image of a grandlady on a chair or somethin just hovered across the doors.. i was like uhhhhhhhhhh... that was too obvious, c'mon now. |
