Planning on Attending Univ/College????
This just in............ anyone planning on attending Post secondary education:
on average, students pay $600 per semester in tuition (excluding books, lab fees, supplies, etc). the liberals are looking at hiking tuition for as early as the summer semester. in ontartio~ tuition went from $600 per month to $2000 on average. in alberta~ from $600 to $1800. but guess what......... FUNDING TO POST SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS HAS ACTUALLY DECLINED, DESPITE HIGHER TUITION FEES!!!!!!!! the federal gov has been slashing funding non stop since the early 1990's. the ofset has been passed on to provincial governments, who refuse to pay for what they figure should be a federal priority. student loans are now run by a private American Corportion. privitization means that the priority is making as much profit for the company, not the well being of loan recipients. grants are all but gone. now huge intrest rates mean your education will keep you stuck to the system instead of being an indipendent contributor to society. the loan remission program is gone. you can no longer seek loan rimission, or partial remission. previously, jobs in high demand (ie: nurses, teachers, healthcare workers, etc) could get remission if they accepted a contract....... this program helped people unable to pay for education become valuble members of society and get jobs that are in demand, easing the need. the Prov Liberals have axed the following: Institution Based Training, Youth Community Action, Public Sector Youth Employment program, The Summer Student Works, JobStart, First Job in Science program, as well as MANY others. and even when tution increases, it doesn't matter because POST SECONDARY SPENDING HAS BEEN FROZEN!!!!!! so we pay 30%-60% more tuition, and actually get LESS than what we get during a tuition freeze. ie: Langara is looking at a $3 Million dollar budget short fall next year. we could pay a million dollars each for tuition, and it wouldn't matter because spending is FROZEN............... make sense???? getting pissed off at all?????? come to the big protest at the Pacific Colloseum tomorrow (monday) at 10am...... more info in my earlier post silverfish ~L7~ new rave photos added daily at: http://members.fotki.com/silverfish |

therefore, you can either get rid of student loans altogether, or you can outsource to a company and save them. Quote:

And why don't you? more details? Whats your "informed possition?" |

You may not care the tact used, and I'm not really going to stop you, I just think informed opinions go farther when your not slinging petty insults to people who are trying to do something good, if you don't agree with it, fine. If you want to say something against it, fine. But to insult someone is childish and lame in these situations. There are times for insults and time for intelligent debate. But yes of course it is your choice. |

no this is what happens when peoples rights start getting taken away. Personally when I pay taxes I expect it to go in the benefit of the people not new cars and tax returns for the rich. |

ok anything you do want changed about the governemnt? what is your contribution to society, to make things better for people? or do you just like to pick at peoples posts with "informed opinions?" |

That was terrible, and boring. You can do better, please do. But I guess I should respond. I don't need to run any provinces to know I'm getting fucked around. I work in this country and have every right to complain and tell the person who should be working for me that he's doing a bad job. This government is dicking us around I really hope your not that ignorant to think they aren't. To say the government right now is in the interest of the majority of the people is bullshit. People aren't going out in the streets because they are ill informed, they are going out to fight for the rights they've fought for in the past and won. i'm not here because of informed opinions as much as I am here because this directly affects my future as a student and a worker. I don't work for them, I work for me and the benefiet of society. They are doing a bad job, and most people know it. WerdyBoy I really thought you were an intelligent person, but you've lost me on this one. It seems you are in favor of these actions by the liberals. I can completely understand if you are well off and have money and shit like that, and would then say you may very well not be ignorant but just stuck in a greedy nature. Canadaian students aren't spoiled. Other countrys should have what we have. and there are ways of doing it. Education, Food, and Medical are RIGHTS and not privaledges to be taken away to balance a budget that was created by tax cuts for the rich. This government is shit, and things get worse when people don't say they are not willing to give up these rights. When your fired from your job or your tutitions go up it directly affects you, unless of course your rich. Personally I know that there are many peopleon my side who will be walking the streets this time and for a long time after, a majority of which have informed opinions, and more. You still answered me tho my comrade, what do you do? Personally I don't like something I see so I do something about it to make it better, at the same time learning what my educated opinion is. |

I still can't get over how lame this comment was, knowing that you can do better. I really don't know what me being in the government has to do with contributing to society and making the world better. Why would you give me two unconnecting choices? either I'm in the government and run the show or I just pick apart others policies? that was just confusing What kind of informed opinion would I need to have to allow myself a passive role in society unless I run a province or country? I thought we grew out of the landowners and rich we're the better people and the only ones allowed to make the choices? I know canada and the US are far from what democracy really ment to people but doesn't mean I have to give it up entirely. Werdyboy your still more then welcome to come to my workshop, whats an informed opinion unless your willing to keep learning? of course your choice, as it always is. |

Actually thats apples and oranges. and I was only curious. I wanted to know what people with educated opinions do to help, maybe I could learn something and follow in your footsteps instead of walking in the streets protesting. |

Re: Re: Planning on Attending Univ/College????
werdyboy and bob..your sentiments echo mine exactly...
i think far too many people have gotten used to being coddled by the NDP, its time for a reality check. i for one am glad that the liberals are doing what they said they are doing...the ndp supporters say look what happend to alberta and ontario after all their services cuts..i agree yeah look at them..there the two strongest economies in canada! |

fuck the people, there not the ones giving up 52 percent of their income to pay for everyone else. yeah its nice to have all this shit but someone has to pay for it..why don't you? i don't see you volunterring to be taxed more. fuck this place, once i get my subsidized education im leaving. you have to remember rich people don't have to stay, they can move anywhere they want, why would they stay here and have half there incomes taken away and given to selfish little brats, and incompetent public servants. |

funding for healthcare is not being cut, tution will go up 125 dollars extra next year..whoopdee doo i have textbooks that cost more then that.a whole bunch of people that we didn't need got fired..big deaL? its a recession, and if public workers want to get paid like poeple in the private sector there gonna have to assume the same risks as them...and that means when theres a recesion you have a chance of losing your job. i can't understand how people bitch and moan so much over such little things. i think its the media that sensationalizes every little thing that the government dose because theres no real news in vaNCOUVER ANYWAY. and don't see how anyone could support the NDP after witnessing their track record for the last ten years. the vast majority of people, won't give a rats ass about this protest. the only people i see complaining are public servants and union leaders who are ued to being treated like royalty by the government. |

What media are ou talking about? There are many differnt ones. Right now I see you as being a parrot of the media my friend. Wait two years and see how things affecvt you. I would really like to see your statistics of your "vast majority of the people" to back up your information. From what I see it's the workers, and people who need it the most who are getting fucked by the liberals. The liberals promised many things to be elected and aren't following through with it. They are tearing up contracts and many more things. This is affecting many people. When you look at all of the prisons, court houses, schools, medical places, welfare offices, first nations, enviromental, womens groups, ect...you start to see that this is affecting alot more then a minority of people. Personally when I was a kid in a class of 30+ the teacher couldn't handle me alone, whats going to happen when you have classes of 40+ with and unlimited amount of disabled students to work with? Wouldn't you rather some room and education for yourself? What happens when you have an arithmatic question to ask and the teacher is too busy dealing with something else? Do you think that is fair education? If you have been educated by a private school you have nothing to worry about besides the increased crime onto you in the next few years. The public centers will get shit. People who can't remember the past make the same mistakes over and over. I feel sorry for the people who think this is a good move. (crackfiend I would take your comments more serious if it wasn't for your online name) PS THIS IS NIGEL POSTING OF SILVERFISHES COMPUTER Last edited by silverfish; Jan 28, 02 at 10:17 PM. |
