i myself feel that establishing in a career (or at least being financially stable) and also being in a loving relationship is first and foremost to having children. i do have girlfriends that have had babies successfully without a solid, stable career and who aren't married or with the babies' daddy as stable boyfriend, and they are doing just fine. they are doing fine because they are strong women. emphasis: strong women i also know of girls that have had babies for wrong reasons and now claim to have been enlightened and become less selfish all because of motherhood -which i believe is selfish in and of itself. in conclusion, the choice is ultimately up to us women - and for humanity's sake: choose wisely!! for me, bringing a child into this world - the way this world is - is a question to be sought on its own. does that make sense? |

Right now I'm in this transition stage of getting myself ready to start classes in October and there's alot of things I would like to check off my "to do list" before even thinking about getting married and raising a child.
The way I see it, is that I'm only go to be able to enjoy this freedom now, and having a baby and "settling down" would get in the way of alot of things I've got going for me. I can only hope to raise a family of my own one day, but for now that dream can wait. |

I love my job and I can see myself doing it for a long time. I'm pretty damn good at it too! But my life is never going to be about work. It isn't now, and it never will be. Work is something you do in between wknds. Work is something that keeps you busy and challeneges you. Work is something that pays the bills. I take it very seriously, but it's not the primary focus of my life.
I would very much like to have children when I'm older. I want to be a mum. I want to be involved as much as I can until perhaps they are in elementary school. Even then I'd like to be able to be involved in PAC metings, fundraising, organising, etc. I want to volunteer my time in the classroom and around the school and to go on fieldtrips. I want to be a "soccer mum" with a mini van or suv carting kids around to soccer, gymnastics, dance recitals, tee-ball. Oh ya and I wanna be a milf. ;) |

Darling, I was defending the rights of women everywhere! What the first dude said just made him sound like a complete tool. And I meant every word. He is most likely 16 and has never even been laid. As for the second, he was actually right. Apparently, women DO get unbelievably cranky and yes, sometimes fat when they are preggos. So how could I not make a joke out of it too? P.S. I get enough good karma out of my REAL LIFE, thanks :) |

A part of achieving my dreams and aspirations in life, would be to have children/be a mother. To raise my children with dignity and respect. Parenthood is something *I* definately want. Obviously it is not something I would rush into. Before becoming a parent I want to be finacially/emotionally stable. I want to be able to have a career. I want to give my kids a good life.
PS - I have major baby fever right now!!!! |

I'd like to address this "baby fever." Personally, I think this is a cultural trend. While every woman feels the maternal urge at some point, the fact that drug-riddled ravers feel the urge to have babies is obviously signposting a cultural deficiency. Why do you feel that you have to have a baby? Is it for validation? Do you think a baby would complete your life and make you happy? I think a lot of people have children for these reasons, and honestly this scenario can be just as bad as bringing a baby into poverty or abuse. Resting your entire existence and happiness on the life of a hardly sentinent being is not only unfair but also shortsighted.
Not saying the above poster falls into this category but I would certainly like her to ask herself why she already can't wait for babies at age 17 or however young she is. |

He's just your average IT guy who's bored at work and decides to be an asshole on the internet! *shakes head* |

Sounds like Mr. Tech support isn't that fulfilled in his job. People can bemoan all they want about their efforts to provide entertainment to themselves and to others, but if the time is spent to identify the reasons for why we act the way we do, the curious observer will often find that acts performed to garner attention are often rooted in self-deprecation, and ultimately form out of the damaged ego of the participant. People genuinely happy with their lives need not try to affect their surroundings so that a desired result is acheived, rather, a sense of self situates the person to realize that reality is nothing without the observer and that everything you could ever dream or want is right under your nose. People missing this fact will act out of character, in essense selling themselves out in order to gain acceptance from their peers.
So yeah, buddy might be 22 and have a hot girlfriend, but the only thing that ensures is that he is 1/5th of the way to leading an O.C. kind of life. As for the IT thing, don't get me wrong, technology is great and fun, but slaving away to make sure that bits and bytes match up seems like a volitile industry. We can't deny the place technology holds in our lives, but we often forget that the world still exists without circuit boards and flashing lights. Yeah you don't know me though, I like to sit on my soapbox and preach at all the little internet ravers. Shits and giggles. This wouldn't be much fun if I wasn't an ass in return. I usually leave well enough alone, but I sometimes like to think of myself as a type of Robin Hood, hacking down the morally arrogant and propping up the morally defeated.
