Police Find Abandoned 44-Car Train In San Diego
SAN DIEGO - Police are trying to determine why a freight train was abandoned on the tracks Thursday night with its engine still running.
The 44-car train was left idling along Interstate 5 on the 1400 block of West Morena Boulevard in Bay Park at about 10 p.m. Because of the recent terrorist bombings in London, officers notified the Homeland Security Department and the FBI about the incident. Officials told NBC 7/39 that they were concerned a terrorist could have stolen the train. Investigators discovered a note inside the train that stated that the train's crew had worked their maximum hours allowed so they left the train and got a taxi to take them home. Officers interviewed two train employees about the incident.
"According to the story they told us, it was the end of their shift, that their procedure was to leave the train idling with the cars attached until the relief crew could come in and take the train away," said Lt. David Rohowits of the San Diego Police Department.
Authorities contacted officials with Burlington Northern Sante Fe, which owns the train, and they sent a crew to move the train to the rail yard. San Diego police officers guarded the train until the replacement crew arrived at about 1 a.m. on Friday.
Are you fucking KIDDING ME? Company Procedure was the leave the train idling with the cars attached? HELLO? All I have to say is that train was itching to get jacked and tagged from engine to the last car. Now THAT would be worth the biggest props ever.
