i also don't think that it would be bad to just ask them how much people usually tip. i'm sure they have been asked it before. just say this is your first tattoo and you're wondering exactly what goes on with the tipping process. i'm sure they'll be quite fair. like someone pointed out, they're already making a lot of money off you.

Well it's not my first but I've never tipped my tattoo artist before...didn't realize there was an etiquette for this sort of thing. I kinda thought $150 an hr was a tip enough
All said and done this tat will be about $700 so what do I tip on top of that? I CAN ONLY WORK SO MUCH OVERTIME..... I'M TIRED! :( hahahaha |

i didn't tip with my tattoo. it took just under and hour and wasn't a very complicated design (those who've seen it know). but i didn't really know you were supposed to tip. now i feel bad, but not as bad as i would if it was long and complicated.

doesn't have to be money. i think people had the right idea with a case of beer or a nice cigar or something. you'll get to know your tattoo person if it's going to take a very long time. just find out what they like and come back later and drop it off.

Where are you getting your done at????
You might be getting ripped off. The place that I always go to for my peircings and tatoos has the best prices, is very clean and they're VERY talented. Just for some comparison... I had my belly button peirced at Sinister Skin for $80 when I could have gotten it done for $35. And yes they are sterile! They just rather get a dollar from every person than a load of money from one person and be ripping their customers off when they buy their jewlery from the wholesalers. Ahh I love them! So yeah Steel Temple is the place to go! |

^Wolf does my piercings but I'd never, ever let him tattoo me. He might be good one day with more practice but I've seen some nasty ass tats that he's done.
He's super affordable, especially if you know him. He did my labret including jewellry for $30.... that was before he even opened up steel temple. He is a GREAT piercer. *Edit - for Jacenta* And I agree with Mikey, especially when it comes to tattooing... you really do get what you pay for. Last edited by Cdn_Brdr; Sep 23, 05 at 02:20 PM. |

i've tipped both my artists and my peircer. i tipped my first artist $20 - tattoo was $70, and my second i tipped $45 - tattoo was $165. i tipped my peircer $15.
my second tattoo was a wonderful experince and the tattoo meant alot more to me then my first. my next two have even more personal meaning, so i'll end up tipping probably alot more. im just pissed cause the artist\the shop i got it done at jacked up the prices - you do get what you pay for, but its a little pricey. |

ALways tip these 3 ppl.....your piercer, your tattooist and your hairstylist......I've never been pierced and don't plan on it but it's always a good idea to tip them.....tattooist: I've been tattooed a few times (2 finished tattoos and one a work in progress) and have tiped everytime one was finished.....though you will have to pay everytime I'm sure if you tell your artist that you will tip when they are fully completed they shouldn't have a problem.....another ettiquet is that unless you get them to recomend some one because you are say moving to another town always have the tattooist who started the tatty finish the tatty......and for hairstylists: my brother is one and hates when he doesn't get tiped

tipping is a good idea, after all tattoo artists are pretty talented people, and i'm sure a little change from your pocket to theres is always a nice thing. mind you, if you asked for a 'i love mom' tattoo and they gave you 'the hulk', maybe...reconsider that tippage
