question for multilinguists

what language do you think and dream in?

I used to think and dream in Tagalog up until I was probably about 9 years old. now everything is in English.

Usually German, but when I lived in Canada, after like 8 months I started thinking and dreaming in English, and now that I started university in milan, I will have to switch to Italian....

good question. i suppose i think and speak in english 99% of the time, when i get really angry i start thinking in spanish, but i never speak it unless im replying to my mom or im trying to teach my nephews a new word, my attempts to teach em new words is pointless since theyre already in a french immersion, but hey, having 3 languages is better than 2.

edit: is it just me or is the horseman in my sig not loading correctly...?

I find this kinda interesting, because I find when I am trying to speak another language, I always have to reference it to English (i.e. I want to say something in Chinese, I have to say it in English first and then translate each word directly before saying the whole sentence).

you must be really good at picking up langages if you can think and dream with it...

it's loading, just very slowly.

hehe, my English is good enough that most people would never guess that I wasn't born in Canada.. but apparently when I get really angry, I talk really fast, like a fobbish filipino.

it's kinda weird for me.. depending on what i'm trying to do, i'll think it to myself in a different language

but i do find sometimes when i'm talking to myself in my head, it's in chinese

but i think for the majority of things i think in english, including the impulse swearing heh

I'm not sure what language i dream in, i think it varies. I know that when my friends catch me talking in my sleep they mostly say i'm talking Russian. I also sometimes randomly insert Russian words into my sentences, although I mostly think in English when I'm at school or writing an essay.

occasionally a phrase, meme, or concept will enter my brain that is better described in french words than english words, so i'll use them. i've had conversations with myself (yes, i know i'm crazy) where i'd babble off into french for a phrase or two.

i'll also use words like 'qi' even though i really don't know chinese just because there isn't really an english word for it.

i don't remember much french anymore though, or at least not readily enough to get back into it conversationally until i've practiced it decently for maybe a day.

some times i'll answer something in french on messenger and then suddenly realise that when you write the same letters out in english it means something completely different. hahahah.
