I used a mild anti-bacterial soap on mine (when I had it). They told me to use either Dial or Jergen's I believe.
Um.. my guess would be that maybe it's rejecting now. Mine was fine for ages, but then started acting up. Is there anything you've been doing or been around lately that you weren't before?

^i was told never to use hydrogen peroxide on any of my piercings as it also kills the new skin cells that are trying to form. it might be good to clean it once, but i wouldn't use it more than that otherwise you'll just be preventing it from healing over.

i used neutrogena non-scented soap to clean all my piercings. i never used hydrogen peroxide once.

I was told you are supposed to wash it every day with a mild anti-bacterial soap.

When I follow those directions mine are all good. If I'm lax on it for more than a few days, they start to act up again.

if it's irritated give it a soak in a hot (as hot as you can stand) bath with 1tsp of epsom salts for at least 15-20 minutes. Try that every day until it feels better.

You shouldn't be using products like bactene on your skin for a long period of time because that is designated for short term use for things like cuts, insect bites and burns, overusage for a long time will actually overdry and stress out your skin. Any mild dye/perfume free soap (ie neutrogena) should do the trick.
