The day after thanksgiving, lots of people have off work, non-retail people anyway. There is also a tradition that thanksgiving = the transition to full blown xmas frenzy, like your T-cells dropping to full blown AIDS levels. As such, there are ridiculous sales on certain items designed to lure people into stores and spending tons of money in a frenzied splurge.

It's called Black Friday because the poor retail drones all have to work, and all have to work for basically the entire day, and by managment because they make the most of their money between today and xmas (black vs red in accounting books).

I've always called it Black Friday.

Lately, people have been referring to it as "Green Friday". What gives?

Saw images of that on CNN.. looked like a fucking nightmare.

Shopping/over-consumption appeals to me less and less every year.

Maybe we should rename it "Day when people forfeit what's left of their dignity for cheap material goods"?

Actually the term 'Black Friday' means something entirely different. It has to do with retailers profits. The basic meaning is that up until this day most retailers have lost more money than they have made and are financially in the 'red'.

Black Friday is the day when most retailers start their Xmas frenzy and therefore the books move forward into the 'black'. That would expalin why Nat has heard 'green' friday as well because both are used to mean a positive profit.

On the way down (before 8am), we heard on the radio that somewhere in America there had already been a fist fight over a laptop in a Walmart. I called my mum to tell her I love her.

We hit the border and the customs officer said we were crazy and shook his head. I told him too, to tell my mother that I love her.

We went, we saw, we shopped until we almost dropped (I was really hungry and dehydrated), and it was amazing! I got some smokin' deals! =) Although... I had to wait 1/2 an hr in Banana Republic to return some jackets I had purchased on our last trip to Portland. Woooot! WE SURVIVED BLACK FRIDAY!

Ahh... Let's do it again next yr Ashlee!

And Tara, I'll see if I can get some img links or photos up for you soon. It's my pleasure!

Just a guess, but would green friday be referring to America's green $$? Like how all their bills are green? And I'm sure many, many bills pass thru tellers hands on this day.

For me, it was all about the visa and amex. Who carries US $$? Ooh Ashlee does. Thank goodness, bc it bought us breakfast! =)

edit: uhhh... nm.

I still think my guess was awfully clever!

Oh you meant Traitor? Well maybe if you weren't always making these offensive posts, I'd take your side a lil more often. At least some of us have morals!
