sooooooo fucking lucky
OK, to be honest its not all luck. I work hard and I am damn talented.. ot to ring my bell or anything. But I just can't believe how lucky I have been in the last year or so. The first time I EVER do burlesque.. something I just stumbled upon and never ever thought would become basically a career for me, and I am asked to tour with one of the oldest, biggest names in canadian burlesque. We were the first girls/troupe to tour not only north america but UK and europe as well (except for the Voodoo dolls of Big john bates and the voodoo dolls) which I have also been recently offered to tour with. Big jon bates and his voodoo dolls are vancouver burlesque/rockabilly royalty and I now may be touring to europe AGAIN with them.
After my first tour I came back loving burlesque, but a little sceptical of the people involved in it, I dont regret going but the people who ran the troupe were.... well not very nice, we'll put it that way. For a couple months after I was doing shows on my own but thats not what I ultimately wanted to do, and I may have given up if I didn't run into, and join, one of the most interesting, talented, creative, WIERDest troupes in the city. Through them I have made some wonderful friends and co-stars, not only in my troupe but amongst the now thriving and friendly scene of bc burlesque.
NOW, we have been offered a monthly night at the red room, (and this is the jackpot right here) a theatre, built in the 30's has been handed over to a group of vaudville performance veterans by the city, who want us to also have our way with the place... Including the 70 years of costumes and props that have accumulated there, and in their warehouse down the street (which also houses their BIGGER recording studio).
Anyways, the jist of the story is I couldn't be luckier, and with all the opportunities handed to me and my girls (and boys) it is quickly coming to the point where we hopefuilly will be able to make a decent living off of our art. Fuck you starbucks!!! I'm going to be making money off the things I love the most, surrounded by some of the coolest poeple in vancouver.
