Getting offered a job randomly

So I go into a store last night asking if they are hiring and the guy says no, but takes my resume. Just before I turn towards the door, some guy asks me if I'm looking for work and I say yeah. He's like its construction $13/hr. so I said alright and he's like ok if your at the job site monday morning, then you got the job. He tells me the address and everything.

So I'm gonna go there at like 7am monday morning and check it out. That was a random job offer, but I'm glad it happened cause I was having a hard time finding work. Construction isn't my favorite thing, but $13 is alright and apperantly its siding, so that's pretty easy. I figure I'll do this until something better comes along, like a sales or management position.

Keep a heads up homie, theres a lot of sketchy construction crews about. But there is indeed a serious shortage of skilled labour, so there is high demand. Also understand that if you have trade skills or just good experience, you can get up past 13$ pretty fast. My brother is somewhat short of jobs these days where he is, but its only temp. but he got up well past 18 dollars in no time, and although hes been building houses almost his whole life, he doesnt actaully have a trades paper, i garantee if he did, hed be closer to the 25-35$ starting. Framers, finsh construction, pipefitters, and a few other trades are in serious demand these days(hence a lot of illigal immigrants are working, but watch how fast theiresite chiefs report them after theyve contributed thier cheap labour)

Good luck mate.

Thanks for the info, I don't have a trade, but I learn really fast and I have been doing construction for a while here and there. Its only temporary until I find something better I'm good at selling things, so that's what I want to get into again.

Alot of construction companies are hiring, but no one want's to work in the winter. I'm taking this job cause its close to home, otherwise I probably would of passed on the offer.

siding isnt that hard, the danger aspect of having to scale tall buildings on scaffolding is the part that sucks..

Both of the jobs I have right now I was offered out of the blue without ever even giving out a resume or references. If that article in the Province about the coming 1 million vacant positions is any indication I think BC is gonna see a lot more people hired on a hand-shake

Some companies are desperate for workers right now because there's such a lack of skilled trade people. All the best.
