Fable, that was one looooong post, and very well worded. But I'll break it down for everyone...
I don't intend to break into the scene to get gigs. I just mix for fun. Though it's a hobby, and at one time long ago I was interested in getting a big break, I didn't have the time or the willpower to go all the way. I had a few shows which I'm sure a few people on this board can vouch for me on (i.e. Event Horizon, The Vibe, OSN2 pre-party way back in '01) but nothing to establish me as a local DJ by any means. As you can understand, working full time and also going to school working towards my Chartered Insurance Professional designation - it doesn't leave much time for anything else.
Sure my website looks professional and all, but it's not a portfolio and it doesn't scream "book me!!!" because that's not its real intention. What I am intending to do is build a rather sizeable electronic music library, update a chart of all the latest electonic music that's hot right now, set up shop to expand the music library, provide some promotional tools such as mix and track hosting for local DJs and producers, and so forth. It is an electronic music site, not a DJ/producer profile.
And to Swing Kids, nothing I said should be taken in its literal form, but to say that SWING KIDS IS THE ONLY PLACE THAT WOULD PROVIDE ME THE BIG BREAK (if I was looking for the big break in the first place) is false. Trying to big note yourself is also a true shot to those DJs who are WANTING to move up and consider submitting their demo to your organization for a gig. I think you failed to acknowledge that this was also a shot at all the promoters whom you work with in the industry - and we all wonder why the scene is becoming so divided again.
I don't take anything personal on here whatsoever, and it's not about picking battles. It's about not letting it bother you. People should know by now that I'm chill like that and wouldn't rag on a promoter or even pick a fight, at the end of the day it's all the same...words in cyberspace.
If someone disliked me or hated me it would be well said to my face rather than a forum post, but I don't want to give people the misconception that I am actually looking to break into the scene as a DJ or producer. The real fact is: I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR THE WILLPOWER FOR IT. So please people, put this aside and look at my website efforts as a promotion for electronic music in BC and to help others out, please.
This is probably the longest post I've made ever, but realize I'm not looking to join the DJ/producer collective...I'm only looking to enjoy it as a partygoer.
