bush authorizes wiretaps

"To save American lives, we must be able to act fast and people expect us to protect them and protect their civil liberties. I'm going to do that. That's my job and I'm going to continue doing my job."

civil liberties: Fundamental individual rights, such as freedom of speech and religion, protected by law against unwarranted governmental or other interference. (dictionary.com)

fuckin' idiot. he obviously doesn't know what civil liberties are...how does listening in on private conversations protect civil liberties?

he says he's protecting americans, but who's going to protect them from HIM?

so what can we do about it? (americans of course, not u guys ;)

MOVEON.ORG>

In what the Associated Press called "a huge defeat to the Bush administration and Republican leaders," the Senate voted 52-47 on Friday to continue the filibuster on the Patriot Act.1 This victory came on the heels of a New York Times report that the Bush administration has been secretlyand potentially illegallyspying on thousands of Americans.2

Now the White House is frantically trying to salvage its intrusive powers in the Patriot Act. We can't let the Senate cave when it comes to our constitutional freedoms and privacy. Sens. Murray and Cantwell did an important thing by supporting the filibuster on the Patriot Act until it includes reforms, but we need to make sure they'll stay strong.

Can you give Sens. Murray and Cantwell a call and thank them for their vote and ask them to hold the line on the filibuster?

Senator Patty Murray
Phone: 202-224-2621

Senator Maria Cantwell
Phone: 202-224-3441

Then, please help us keep track by reporting your call here:

In light of the new report on eavesdropping, Sen. Russ Feingold said, "I don't want to hear again from the attorney general or anyone on this floor that this government has shown it can be trusted to use the power we give it with restraint and care."3 The New York Times article was yet more evidence that there need to be checks on the Bush administration's spying powers.

MoveOn members were a part of this victory. In just two days, we delivered more than 215,000 signatures and made thousands of calls to key senators supporting the filibuster. Many of the senators who ended up supporting the filibuster were undecided until the day of the vote, meaning your calls and comments helped them to do the right thing.

What happened on Friday was a crucial victory. Democrats led an important fight to protect the freedom and privacy of all Americans and they were able to bring a few key Republicans with thembut the fight is not over yet.

Can you make a quick call to Sens. Murray and Cantwell and let them know you appreciate their vote and ask them to hold the line on the Patriot Act until it includes needed reforms?

Senator Patty Murray
Phone: 202-224-2621

Senator Maria Cantwell
Phone: 202-224-3441

Then, please help us keep track by reporting your call here:

We'll keep you posted on what happens, but Sens. Murray and Cantwell could use some support today.

Thanks for all you do,

Thanks for bringing this up yall. Its good to know. But understand the ability to dismantle the patriot act was never being discussed, the ability to ratify it was. So any concession would be at best reactionary and meaningless.

While you are focussing on the US government security policy DONT FORGET TO DELVE INTO CANADA'S NATIONAL SECURITY POLICY, and related topics such as CSIS operations, the ambiguity and secrecy of JTF2, and the hypocricy of immigration and refugee policy!!

I trully believe it will still be imperative to carry on the struggle after bush leaves, because at that time, a precedent will have already been achieved that will take decades to recover from. There is very little difference between republicans and democrats in the US. And the current empire building agenda of the US government might be so strong when bush steps down, it might not even matter.

The only answer is to arrange a meeting with the US governmental elite, the enite zionist lobby, the primary shareholders of the top 5% of corporate USA. and a few other players. At which point the confrence room of choice is sealed and execution style killings down to the last person take place. The bodies then will be incenerated, the dust collected in an airtight container and rocketed into the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

This will serve as an example to all corrupt and souless leaders of nations that the people have no qualms about going all event horizon on their asses. :)

People die, Dogma doesn't.

You can kill the entire civilization but their Dogma carries on.

All the Jews were killed in the crusades.

Then the Khazars took up their Dogma.

Dogma never dies.

It just finds a new "Host".
