fellow painters & art lovers
so lately i've been diving into my art history texts and am becoming heavily influenced\totally digging the past resulting in some remakes. i would really like some critiques - from color theory to gut reactions. (both paintings reside in someone elses house but am producing more like them, and these are the only shots i have of them)

-gut feeling: the two pieces equally made me think of weakness, vulnerability and shame
-the colour schemes respectively, seem cool, and distant(somewhat aged as well), although i think the dancer piece could use some additional tinting and or complementary colours -the lady holding the container seems to contain an element of sorrow, but the eyes are lacking in some emotion -i think the eyes in both paintings could use some highlights or contrasting colour, to bring out an extra dynamic element conveying some buried emotion or even feelings of longing -i think both these pieces rock, keep me posted if you have any viewings in the future, id check your work out mos def :) -placement: both peices seem to have some movement on the right, and high (their left) perhaps displaying the dancer piece on the bottom, with the other painting on the top and to the right might be an idea. There would be a flow starting from the bottom left going to the top right, strengthened by the motion and position of the arms. -the black/white tonal study was extremely somber for me. The nude figure hinted playfullness and immedietly i thought of memories of better more simple times, marred by some trauma or present day disapointment. -once again, im thoroughly impressed!!! |

one thing i like about degas' work is that it has this softness that other impressionist works by artists like monet didn't have, i think that lovely glow makes his dancers just exhibit this innocence and purity that makes it memorable (probably the only paintings of dancers that truly stick out in my mind)..i like how you took that playful innocent glow and you put kind of an edge to it and you've made it modern, you've not only made that a reflection of light and stayed true to the impressionist style, but you've also managed to capture motion in that piece and not a lot of degas' work seemed to show that. I love the fact that the dancer doesn't have eyes, it just brings this character and this message that a lot of degas' dancers didn't have. I might be kind of off..haha, but I've got a bit of a soft spot in my heart with impressionist art and i think it's lovely.
