some unfinished sketches
so here i am.. stuck in this life that i've made and i'm trying to figure out what i should do with myself..
2 things that have always stuck out since i was just a wee one, are music and art.. i've always thought about art school.. like emily carr or something, but i am always reluctant cause i see lots of other people who are absolutely amazingly talented..and then i see me. my mom is always urging me to paint or draw or play the piano, and she insists that i try selling some(LOL)... but um.. she's my mom.. and you know how that goes..('only a mother could love' type deal..etc..etc) i am in no way shape or form ready to even consider accepting money for what i have done! or to even think that anyone would want to buy it. the whole thought is embarrassing! all i want to do is go study at an art school and take what i can and apply it to my life. most times i don't think that i am creative enough... but then i think, thats what the school is for.. to further my develpement, to help me achieve.. but then i beat myself up again.. so i came up with an idea i'm going to post some of my sketches on here and i want you to give me an honest opinion of what you think.. i had to actually take pics of them to post them so some might look a little wonky due to that.. but other then that.. give me your worst |

the first one you posted is some serious hot shit.
cap college and the studio art program offer summer classes in painting and drawing - kinda like a taste test of the full program. they also do a studio art taster course - i think its 2 weeks and you get to try out all the courses in the program. if you want to paint\draw i advise studio. if you want to go into anything graphic - from photography to design, the carr is the place to go. if you would like any info, pm me. |

hey.
you remind me of me. I had the same dilema. Its like I spent all this time painting and montaging stuff since i was a child and thought i had a total creative jean in me. But i didnt know what to do with it, or if i was ready to go to school. Then one day i said fuck it i'm doing it! so i enrolled in the graphic design program at the art institute of vancouver. yes there were many talented people there. some of them could draw better then anything i've ever seen. but that didnt phase me. I took what the instructors were saying to heart, and developed my own personal style. 18 months later, i graduated with an advanced diploma ( literaly 3 weeks ago )and already i'm working with clients doing freelance contracts! Here is my website if you want to check out some work. www.marz6.com So my message to you is this. If you want to do it and feel like art has to be a part of your life, then do it. You can be one of few people on this planet that can say they love their job. Do it! |

that will give you all the specific details and so on. cap also offers the IDEA program -which is absolutely amazing. george rammal is heading the program - at least he is this year although they usually switch it up between the teachers. all of the staff are extremely helpful and ready to answer questions. i dont know what else to say, so just give me an email with questions and i'll answer them all for you, or post back here i'll check for it. email: [email protected] |

would this have just happened? i graded last year, there was no real problem. its the arts, we're always lacking in funding. plus the school doesnt really give us anything - we pay for everything in the classrooms - from paper to ink. and sculpture just received a shit load of gear from the carr cause they knocked out alot of their sculpture aspects. i also (strangly) ran into the printmaking teacher at the mall today (he lives literally blocks away from me) and he gave me the influence that the school was spectacular. there was however politcal problems among staff last year - some menopause issues (sounds lame but it affected our grad show) but that really wasnt hard to over come. |

ATTN: Justa Girl (thats a fucking lie btw, by your words and sketches, id say your a lot more!)
so your going for the lifestyle redirection, think your some talented artist who can just up and go to school, and chase a career in the arts eh? .....sounds good, go for it! Lets face it, most aspects of the arts are tough, competetive, soul wrenching, heart dissecting, ego shattering and humbling! ...and thats the good stuff! If your recent idea for exploration, or career direction excites you as much as it scares you, if it creates butterflies in your stomach so harsh, that they feel more like crows, THEN GO FOR IT! FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE. Remember the cool thing about art, is even when your feeling shitty, scared, angry, insecure or even lost, ITS FUEL FOR THE TALENT! ...talent that you have! DO EEEEEEETTTT :) |

the carr talks alot of shit about us\the studio program which is really strange due to the fact that we are a diploma program and dont really threaten them in any way... shit if anything the grad shows are far apart and are not even in the same city! we took on some of their students last year who needed to finish up their BFA that was sculpture heavey, other then that we dont really harm them. i always thought they'd have it out for another school that offered a BFA program or something. maybe its the IDEA program they were yapping about, but i dont see that program getting any sort of cut as the gov't usually dishes out money to art programs that involve a more business aspect. and the IDEA program is pretty new, so i dont see them cutting anything from it. and its really hard to get into - i knew three kids last year all with more talent then ten people just in their pinkies that didnt get in, but got accepted at the carr. ahhhhh look at me, now im starting to bash the carr. its like siblings fighting, thats all. |
